Fala, Midlothian
Fala is a hamlet in the south-eastern corner of Midlothian, Scotland, and about 15 miles from Edinburgh. Location The parish of the same name is about five miles long from east to west, and one mile broad from north to south, and contains about . It is bounded by the following parishes: Humbie to the east, Soutra (to which it is now conjoined) on the south, Heriot & Stow on the west, and on the north by the detached parts of Borthwick, Cranstoun, and Crichton. Fala Hall Burn rises in the moor to the south of Fala Flow and forms the boundary between Fala and Soutra parishes. The streams eventually run into the Cakemuir Burn above Costerton. Due to its location, the village, and more so Fala Dam due to its topography, can often get cut off from the outside world during heavy snowfalls, with residents known to be snowed in for several days. Fala () is a settlement on the Drava River in northeastern Slovenia. The part of the settlement on the right bank of the river belongs to the Municipality of Ruše. The part on the left bank of the river belongs to the Municipality of Selnica ob Dravi. The area is part of the traditional region of Styria. The municipality is now included in the Drava Statistical Region. Name Fala was mentioned in written sources in 1245 as ''in domo Volmari'' (and as ''de Valle'' in 1279, ''Vall'' and ''Valle'' in 1289, and ''Fall'' in 1495). The name is of unclear origin, although the initial ''F-'' indicates a German origin. Kvaløya, Finnmark
Kvaløya ( sme, Fálá) is a large island in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The island is located in Hammerfest Municipality. The town of Hammerfest is located in the western shore of the island. Other villages on the island include Forsøl, Rypefjord, and Stallogargo. The island is connected to the mainland via Norwegian National Road 94 which crosses the Kvalsund Bridge in the southern part of the island. Most of the settlements on the island are on the western shore along the highway 94. There is a ferry connection between Kvaløya and the island of Seiland to the southwest. Fala (" Speech", also called ''Xalimego'') is a Western Romance language commonly classified in the Galician-Portuguese subgroup, with some traits from Leonese, spoken in Spain by about 10,500 people, of whom 5,500 live in a valley of the northwestern part of Extremadura near the border with Portugal. The speakers of Fala live in the towns of Valverde del Fresno (Valverdi du Fresnu), Eljas (As Ellas) and San Martín de Trevejo (Sa Martín de Trevellu). These are within the valley of Jálama, in the comarca of Sierra de Gata. Fala is regarded as the first official presentation of Polish punk rock, new wave music as well as reggae,Robert Brylewski, Kryzys w Babilonie. Autobiografia, rozmawia Rafał Księżyk. Fala (April 7, 1940 – April 5, 1952), a Scottish Terrier, was the dog of United States president Franklin D. Roosevelt. One of the most famous presidential pets, Fala was taken to many places by Roosevelt. Given to the Roosevelts by a cousin, Fala knew how to perform tricks; the dog and his White House antics were mentioned frequently by the media and often referenced by Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor. Fala outlived Roosevelt by seven years and was buried near him. A statue of Fala beside Roosevelt is featured in Washington, D.C.'s Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the only presidential pet so honored. Another statue of Fala has been placed at Puerto Rico's "Paseo de los Presidentes" in San Juan. Early life Fala was born on April 7, 1940. Roosevelt's distant cousin, Margaret "Daisy" Suckley, gave the dog to Roosevelt as an early Christmas gift.
