Faisz Musthapha
Faisz Musthapha is a Sri Lankan lawyer and diplomat. Early life and family Musthapha is the son of S. M. Musthapha, a leading lawyer who practised in Kandy. He was educated at the University of Ceylon. Musthapha is married to Ameena (Fathima). Their son Faiszer is a lawyer and government minister whilst their daughter Faisza is also a lawyer. Career Musthapha has been practising law since the mid 1960s and is a President's Counsel. He served as chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka between 2000 and 2003. President's Counsel (Sri Lanka)
President's Counsel (postnominal PC) is an eminent lawyer who is appointed by the President of Sri Lanka to be one of the "President's Counsel learned in the law". The term is also recognized as an honorific which replaced the practice of appointment of Queen's Counsel (QC) which ceased when Sri Lanka became a republic in 1972. It is equivalent to the appointment of King's Counsel in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms, such as New Zealand, and the equivalent of Senior Counsel in Commonwealth republics, such as South Africa, and derives the same privileges such as the privilege of sitting within the Bar of court. President's Counsel is a professional rank and status, conferred by the President under the Article 33 of the Constitution of Sri Lanka which is recognised by courts. Shri (; , ) is a Sanskrit term denoting resplendence, wealth and prosperity, primarily used as an honorific. The Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom is the Sri Lankan envoy to United Kingdom. Countries belonging to the Commonwealth of Nations typically exchange High Commissioners, rather than Ambassadors. Though there are a few technical differences (for instance, whereas Ambassadors present their diplomatic credentials to the host country's head of state, High Commissioners are accredited to the head of government), they are in practice one and the same office.
