Fairville, Pennsylvania
Fairville, Pennsylvania is an unincorporated area in southern Chester County which developed in the early nineteenth century about a mile north of the Pennsylvania-Delaware border. It is a linear village along the Kennett Pike (Pennsylvania Route 52) that runs between Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and Wilmington, Delaware. Businesses along the road served both travelers on the road and residents of nearby farms. The village or hamlet extends about 500 yards along both sides of Kennett Pike from Fairville Road to Hickory Hill Road. About 1900 Phillip DuPont built a mansion just south of Fairville Road. It is included in the defined Fairville Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. The Harlan Log House, which was built about 1715, is about a half mile west of the village on Fairville Road. Kennett Square, Pennsylvania
Kennett Square is a borough in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is known as the Mushroom Capital of the World because mushroom farming in the region produces over 500 million pounds of mushrooms a year, totaling half of the United States mushroom crop. To celebrate this heritage, Kennett Square has an annual Mushroom Festival, where the town shuts down to have a parade, tour mushroom farms, and buy and sell food and other goods. It is also home to the corporate headquarters of Genesis HealthCare which administers elderly care facilities. Located in the Delaware Valley, Kennett Square is considered a suburb of both Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Wilmington, Delaware. The local high school is Kennett High School. Pennsylvania Route 52
Pennsylvania Route 52 (PA 52) is a state highway located in southeast Pennsylvania. The southern terminus of the route is at the Pennsylvania-Delaware state line near Kennett Square, where the road continues as Delaware Route 52 (DE 52). The northern terminus is at U.S. Route 322 Business (US 322 Bus.) in West Chester. Near the Kennett Township community of Longwood, it has about a wrong-way concurrency with US 1. PA 52 passes through suburban and rural areas along its route. PA 52 was first designated by 1928, continuing northeast from West Chester to New Hope along a concurrency with US 122 (later US 202). This concurrency was removed by 1930 and the northern terminus of PA 52 was cut back to its current location in West Chester. In 2011, a portion of PA 52 north of US 1 was realigned. The Harlan Log House, also known as "The Log House," was built about 1715 by Joshua Harlan, is a well-preserved example of an English-style log cabin near Kennett Square, in Kennett Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is about a half mile west of the hamlet of Fairville. Joshua Harlan was the son of George Harlan, who arrived in Pennsylvania in 1687. Centreville, Delaware
Centerville (also known as Centreville) is an unincorporated community in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. Centerville is now known primarily for being the location of Du Pont family estates, as well as several other wealthy business families from nearby Wilmington, and the home of Governor Jack Markell. History The village developed along the Kennett and Wilmington Pike which was chartered by the Delaware Legislature in 1811. The road, now known as Delaware Route 52 or the Kennett Pike, is part of the Brandywine Valley Scenic Byway, a National Scenic Byway.
