Fairfield is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Darebin and Yarra local government areas. Electoral District Of Northcote
The electoral district of Northcote is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It covers the suburbs of Alphington, Fairfield, Northcote, Thornbury, and part of Preston. It lies on the northern bank of the Yarra River between the Merri and Darebin creeks. The seat was created in 1927 as a replacement for Jika Jika, and has been a safe Labor seat for most of its existence. It has only been held by seven members. The seat's most historically prominent member is 34th Premier John Cain (senior). Upon Cain's death in 1957, he was succeeded by Frank Wilkes, who went on to become state Labor leader from 1977 to 1981. Former ABC newsreader Mary Delahunty was elected in a 1998 by-election. Fairfield Industrial Dog Object
The ''Fairfield Industrial Dog Object'' (''FIDO'') is a huge sculpture in hardwood of a canine in the inner northern Melbourne suburb of Fairfield, Victoria, Australia. It was part of the Darebin City Council's Public Art Program, and is located beside the Fairfield railway station. Development ''FIDO'' was announced in 1999 as one of a number of projects funded through the council's public art program. From the outset there was considerable community opposition to the project, with members of the local community petitioning the council in order to stop the project from proceeding – at one stage approximately 400 local residents were surveyed by a local shop owner, and it was reported that 90% of those who responded opposed the work. Fairfield Railway Station, Melbourne
Fairfield railway station is located on the Hurstbridge line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of Fairfield, and opened on 8 May 1888 as Fairfield Park. It was renamed Fairfield on 14 November 1943. History Opening on 8 May 1888, when a railway line between Collingwood and Heidelberg was provided, Fairfield station, like the suburb itself, was named after "''Fairfield Park''", an estate that was subdivided on land that was purchased by land speculator Charles Henry James. ''Buried Country'' is the name of a documentary film, book, and soundtrack album released in 2000, and a stage show which toured from 2016 to 2018. A prosopography created by Clinton Walker, it tells the story of Australian country music in the Aboriginal community by focussing on the genre's most important stars. Harry "Buck" Williams (16 August 1927 – 1991) and Wilga Munro (born 1940 or 1943), known as Harry and Wilga Williams, were Aboriginal Australian musicians who performed professionally between the 1960s and 1980s, playing Aboriginal country music. They formed the band the Country Outcasts, also known as Harry Williams and the Country Outcasts. Harry Williams Harry "Buck" Williams was born on 16 August 1927 on the Erambie Mission just outside the town of Cowra, New South Wales.
