The Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University () is the fifth oldest medical school in Thailand located in Mueang Khon Kaen District, Khon Kaen Province, the second medical school to be set up in a region outside Bangkok and is the sixth oldest faculty of Khon Kaen University. History The construction of the Faculty of Medicine was proposed in 1968 by Prof. Bimala Kalakicha to the council of Khon Kaen University. The proposal was passed on to the governmental cabinet and eventually made it into the 'Third National Economic and Social Development Plan' of 1972-1976. Construction received cabinet approval on 4 August 1972 and the faculty opened on 9 September 1972.The first cohort of medical students were admitted in 1974, selected from students in the Faculties of Science and Arts and consisted of 16 students. Medical education in Thailand was pioneered by King Chulalongkorn, who founded the country's first medical school called the "School of Medical Practitioners" at Siriraj Hospital in 1889, now the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. Kalasin Province
Kalasin ( th, กาฬสินธุ์, ) is one of Thailand's seventy-six provinces (''changwat''), located in upper northeastern Thailand, also called Isan. The province was established by the Act Establishing Changwat Kalasin, BE 2490 (1947), and it came into existence on 1 October 1947. Chaiyaphum ( th, ชัยภูมิ, ) is one of Thailand's seventy-six provinces (''changwat''), located in central northeastern Thailand , also called Isan. Chaiyaphum Hospital () is the main hospital of Chaiyaphum province, Thailand. It is classified under the Ministry of Public Health as a regional hospital. It has a CPIRD Medical Education Center which trains doctors for the Institute of Medicine of Suranaree University of Technology. It is capable of tertiary care. Nong Khai province ( th, หนองคาย, ) was formerly the northernmost of the Isan, northeastern (Isan) Provinces of Thailand, provinces (''changwat'') of Thailand until its eight eastern districts were split off to form Thailand's newest province, Bueng Kan province, in 2011. Udon Thani Hospital () is the main hospital of Udon Thani Province, Thailand and is classified under the Ministry of Public Health as a regional hospital. It has a CPIRD Medical Education Center which trains doctors for the Faculty of Medicine of Khon Kaen University. History Udon Thani Hospital was built on land initially owned by the Ministry of Education which was used as housing for staff under the ministry working in Monthon Udon. When the housing turned to disuse, this land was transferred in 1951 and designated for the construction of a hospital. However, funding was little and thus some donations were received from the Thung Sri Mueang annual festival.
