Fachtna O'Donovan
Michael Fachtna O'Donovan (1921 - 17 October 1995) was an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Clonakilty and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1943 until 1949. Career O'Donovan first came to Gaelic football prominence with the Carbery Rangers team that won consecutive Southwest Junior Championship titles. Around this time he was also drafted onto the Cork minor team and won a Munster Minor Championship title in 1939. O'Donovan subsequently transferred to the Clonakilty club that was enjoying a golden age in terms of success and won six County Championship titles in ten years. He was soon added to the Cork senior team and claimed his first silverware in 1943 when Cork won the Munster Senior Championship for the first time in 15 years. Carbery Rangers GAA
Carbery Rangers is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the village of Rosscarbery, County Cork, Ireland. The club is solely concerned with the game of Gaelic football. History Located in Rosscarbery in West Cork, Carbery Rangers was founded on 10 November 1887. The club played its first match just under a month later in a field which was part of the lands of Downeen Castle. Carbery Rangers first came to countywide notice when they contested and lost back-to-back Cork SFC finals in 1905 and 1906. Carbery Rangers spent much of the following century operating in the junior grade, winning ten West Cork JAFC titles between 1937 and 2003. The last of these victories was subsequently converted into noth Cork JAFC and Munster Club JFC titles, before losing the All-Ireland final to Wolfe Tones. Clonakilty Gaelic Footballers
Clonakilty (; ), sometimes shortened to Clon, is a town in County Cork, Ireland. The town is located at the head of the tidal Clonakilty Bay. The rural hinterland is used mainly for dairy farming. The town's population as of 2016 was 4,592. The town is a tourism hub in West Cork, and was recognised as the "Best Town in Europe" in 2017, and "Best Place of the Year" in 2017 by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland. John O'Keeffe (Cork Gaelic Footballer)
John O'Keeffe (1925 – 2 February 2021) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for club side Millstreet and at inter-county level with the Cork senior football team. Career O'Keeffe first came to Gaelic football prominence with the Millstreet club. He was club captain in 1948 when Millstreet defeated St. Vincent's to claim their only County Championship title. This success saw O'Keeffe drafted onto the Cork senior team the following year, and he was also appointed team captain. He won his only Munster Championship title that year. Death O'Keeffe died in Newmarket, County Cork on 2 February 2021. Dave Magnier
David Magnier (30 October 1915 – 10 July 1979) is an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Fermoy and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1944 until 1947. Career Magnier first came to Gaelic football prominence as a 17-year-old member of the Fermoy team that claimed the County Intermediate Championship title in 1932. This victory saw him join the Cork minor team in 1933. A stint with the Cork junior team was followed by a call-up to the Cork senior team in 1943. Magnier collected a Munster Championship in his first year with the team, however, it would be 1945 before he joined the starting fifteen. He won his second provincial medal that year before ending the season by lining out at right corner-back when Cork claimed the All-Ireland title after a defeat of Cavan in the final. 1939 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship
The 1939 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship was the 11th staging of the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament for boys under the age of 18. Cavan entered the championship as defending champions, however, they were defeated by Monaghan in a replay of the Ulster final. On 24 September 1939, Roscommon won the championship following a 1-9 to 1-7 defeat of Monaghan in the All-Ireland final. This was their first All-Ireland title.
