Fabry disease is one of a group of conditions known as lysosomal storage diseases. α-Galactosidase ( EC 3.2.1.22, α-GAL, α-GAL A; systematic name α-D-galactoside galactohydrolase) is a glycoside hydrolase enzyme that catalyses the following reaction: : Hydrolysis of terminal, non-reducing α-D-galactose residues in α-D-galactosides, including galactose oligosaccharides, galactomannans and galactolipids It catalyzes many catabolic processes, including cleavage of glycoproteins, glycolipids, and polysaccharides. Charles Fabry
Maurice Paul Auguste Charles Fabry (; 11 June 1867 – 11 December 1945) was a French physicist. Life Fabry graduated from the École Polytechnique in Paris and received his doctorate from the University of Paris in 1892, for his work on interference fringes, which established him as an authority in the field of optics and spectroscopy. In 1904, he was appointed Professor of Physics at the University of Marseille, where he spent 16 years. Career In optics, he discovered an explanation for the phenomenon of interference fringes. Together with his colleague Alfred Pérot he invented the Fabry–Pérot interferometer in 1899. He and Henri Buisson discovered the ozone layer in 1913. Johannes Fabry
Johannes Fabry (1 June 1860, in Jülich – 29 June 1930, in Dortmund) was a German dermatologist. He studied medicine at the universities of Bern and Berlin, receiving his doctorate in 1886. Following graduation he trained in dermatology under Joseph Doutrelepont at the University of Bonn and with Hugo Ribbert in Zürich. From 1889 to 1929 he was chief medical officer of the Skin Clinic at the Dortmund municipal hospital, which under his guidance, became a leading center for dermatology. His name is associated with "Fabry disease", a rare, inherited metabolic disease characterized by telangiectatic skin lesions, kidney failure and disorders of the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems. Background Fabry was born in 1909 and earned his doctorate from the University of Vienna. Being Jewish, he had attempted to flee from the Nazis, but was arrested and held in the Merxplas detention camp in Belgium. Sándor Fábry (born 20 November 1953) is a Hungarian comedian, talk show host, and writer. Born in Budapest, to Sándor Fábry Sr. and Éva Kovácsy. He has a brother. He attended the Teachers' Training College of Pécs and later the ELTE university. He worked as script editor at Mafilm until 1992, and he wrote for the satirical magazine ''Hócipő'' between 1989 and 2002.
