Fabio Baldas
Fabio Baldas (born 19 March 1949 in Trieste) is a former association football Referee (association football), referee from Italy. He is mostly known for supervising one match in the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, the first-round Group A contest between the United States men's national soccer team, United States and Colombia national football team, Colombia. Baldas served as a referee in numerous international competitions, including the 1991 FIFA U-17 World Championship and the Football at the 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992 Olympic tournament. The 1994 FIFA World Cup was the 15th FIFA World Cup, the world championship for men's national soccer teams. The United States men's national soccer team (USMNT) represents the United States in men's international soccer competitions. 1991 FIFA U-17 World Championship
The 1991 FIFA U-17 World Championship, the fourth edition of the tournament, was held in the cities of Florence, Montecatini Terme, Viareggio, Massa, Carrara, and Livorno in Italy between 16 August and 31 August 1991. Players born after 1 August 1974 could participate in this tournament. Saudi Arabia, the 1989 champions, were not able to defend their title as they withdrew from the final round of the AFC qualifying tournament, citing the Blue Diamond Affair. The tournament was originally to be scheduled in Ecuador, but due to the cholera outbreak earlier that year, it was moved to Italy, which hosted the previous year's World Cup. Football At The 1992 Summer Olympics
The football competition at the 1992 Summer Olympics featured 16 national sides from the six continental confederations. The 16 teams were drawn into four groups of four and each group played a round-robin tournament. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams advanced to the knockout stage, beginning with the quarter-finals and culminating with the gold medal match at Camp Nou on 8 August 1992. For the first time, an age limit has been set for participants under the age of 23, which has been used ever since. 1994 FIFA World Cup Qualification (UEFA)
A total of 39 UEFA teams entered qualification for the 1994 FIFA World Cup. However, Liechtenstein withdrew before the draw was made. The CIS, then Russia took the Soviet Union's spot after the Soviet Union dissolved while FIFA suspended Yugoslavia due to United Nations sanctions stemming from the Yugoslav wars. The European zone was allocated 13 from 24 places in the final tournament. Germany, the defending champions, qualified automatically, leaving 12 spots open for competition between 37 teams.
