The Uruguayan Basketball Federation ( es, Federación Uruguaya de Basketball, FUBB) is the governing body of basketball in Uruguay. It was founded in 1915, and is in charge of the senior Uruguayan national basketball team and the Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol (LUB). History Under the presidency of Federico Crocker. Basketball languished in Uruguay under the effects of Association football's popularity; at the 1936 Olympic Games, however, the Uruguayan National basketball team obtained a sixth place, which helped boost the sport's popularity in the Latin American country. That same year, the "FUBB" became a member of FIBA. After, the Uruguayan Basketball team won two bronze medals, in the olympic games of Helsinki 1952 and Melbourne 1956, both times after USA and USSR. Liga Uruguaya De Básquetbol
The Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol (abbreviated as LUB; English: ''Uruguayan Basketball League'') is the most important professional club basketball league in Uruguay. It is organized by the Uruguayan Basketball Federation (FUBB). The Uruguayan Basketball League competition began in 2003. Before that time, the Uruguayan basketball championships were only local metropolitan, and no competitions brought together all the clubs in the country. Until the Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol was created, the capital clubs participated in the Campeonato Uruguayo Federal de Básquetbol (Uruguayan Federal Basketball Championship), while the clubs of the rest of the country competed in regional tournaments. The Uruguayan Federal Basketball Championship was founded in 1915, making it among the oldest on the continent. Club Atlético Tabaré
Club Atlético Tabaré (or simply Tabaré) is a professional basketball club based in Montevideo, Uruguay. The club was founded on July 9, 1931 and joined the FUBB in 1932. In 1934 it was promoted to the Second Division and in 1948, the First Division. The club won the Campeonato Uruguayo Federal de Básquetbol federal championship in 1960, 1961, 1962, 1964 and 1968. The club later alternated between the Second and First Division, with its last promotion and title in 2011, returning to decline in the 2013/14 season. Danubio Fútbol Club is a Uruguayan football club based in Jardines del Hipódromo, Montevideo that currently plays in the Uruguayan Primera División. Founded in 1932, the club's home stadium is Jardines del Hipódromo, which has a capacity of 18,000. History Danubio was founded by the Bulgarian-born brothers Mihail (Miguel) and Ivan (Juan) Lazaroff on 1 March 1932 together with other youths from the "Republica de Nicaragua" school in Montevideo. The club's name is a reference to the Danube river, the second-longest river in Europe. It was proposed by Mihail and Ivan's mother, María Mincheff de Lazaroff. Initially, she suggested the club be named after a different river in Bulgaria – Maritsa. However, the proposal was not approved, as the name was viewed as too feminine. Capurro is a ''barrio'' (neighbourhood or district) of Montevideo, Uruguay, and part of the Capurro–Bella Vista composite barrio, with Artigas Boulevard separating the two. Location Capurro shares borders with La Teja to the north west, Prado to the north east, Bella Vista to the south east and it borders the Bay of Montevideo to the south west. History The early history of the area was marked by the trade of slaves from Africa. Slave trading ships had first arrived in Montevideo in 1743. Reducto is a ''barrio'' (neighbourhood or district) of Montevideo, Uruguay. Location This barrio borders Bella Vista to the west, Prado and Atahualpa to the north, La Figurita and Villa Muñoz to the east and Aguada to the south. Its main streets are Millan Avenue and San Martin Avenue, while General Flores Avenue runs along its east border. History Reducto appears in maps long before the urbanization of the area. Its name means redoubt and indeed, in 1831, during the second siege of Montevideo, a redoubt was built there by General José Rondeau, at the spot where the actual San Martín Avenue meets Burges Avenue.
