FRIDE
The FRIDE (''Fundación para las Relaciones Internacionales y el Diálogo Exterior'', Spanish for "Foundation for International Relations and Foreign Dialogue") was an independent European think tank headquartered in Madrid and Brussels. As of 2012, it was one of 55 think tanks in the country. It focused on the improvement of European views and ideas on various topics related to international development. It ceased its activities on 31 December 2015 due to economic reasons. History The think tank was founded by Diego Hidalgo in 1999. Hidalgo is also the founder of another think tank, Club of Rome, and other similar organizations. FRIDE later became part of the European Think Tanks Group which also includes the German Development Institute, European Center for Development Policy Management and the Overseas Development Institute. Pedro Solbes
Pedro Solbes Mira (born 31 August 1942 in Pinoso, Alicante) is a Spanish economist. He was the president of FRIDE, Madrid-based think tank. Career While independent in the sense of not affiliated to any party, his various ministerial roles in Spain have always been within Socialist Workers' Party cabinets. Since 1985 to 1991, he was the 3rd Secretary of State for the European Communities. He was agriculture and fisheries minister (1991–1993) and finance minister (1993–1996) in Felipe Gonzalez's cabinets, also MP representing Alicante for the same party until 1999. Appointed by Spanish premier José María Aznar (of the main competing party, the People's Party) Solbes was a European commissioner for economic and monetary affairs in the European Commission presided by Romano Prodi (the Prodi Commission). Diego Hidalgo Schnur
Diego Hidalgo Schnur (born 5 November 1942) is a Spanish philanthropist, intellectual and businessman. He is the son of Diego Hidalgo y Durán (1886-1961), who was a prominent jurist, author, intellectual and Minister of War under the Second Spanish Republic (1931-1936), and of Gerda Schnur de Hidalgo (1910-1969), also an intellectual who lived in Paris from 1926 and 1939. He speaks several languages, and is fluent in Spanish, French, English. Early life and education Born in Madrid on 5 November 1942, he studied Law in the Complutense University of Madrid (1959-1964) and obtained a Master in Business administration from Harvard (1966-1968). He was a PhD candidate in Political Sciences in the City University of New York (1996-2001).
