FM Broadcasting In Australia
FM broadcasting started in Australian capital cities in 1947 on an "experimental" basis, using a (monaural) ABC national network feed, consisting largely of classical music and Parliament, as a programme source. FM receivers were expensive and the audience consisted largely of hi-fi enthusiasts. The transmitters (operated by the PMG's Dept) were shut down in 1961, as much of the standard FM band (98–108 MHz) was reserved for TV channel 5 (102.250 video carrier). Early attempts at introduction In April 1948 the Labor Government of Ben Chifley indicated that the introduction of FM broadcasts would occur on a nationalised basis with no commercial stations. KIIS Network
The KIIS Network is an Australian commercial radio stations owned and operated by the ARN. Formerly branded as the Mix Network, the network was rebranded as the KIIS Network in 2015 following the relaunch of KIIS 101.1 Melbourne. The KIIS Network is named after KIIS-FM, a Los Angeles-based radio station broadcast on the 102.7 MHz FM band. History In November 2014, ARN announced that from January 2015 a year after the demise of Melbourne radio station Mix 101.1 and Sydney radio station Mix 106.5, the Mix Network would be rebranded as the KIIS Network, with KIIS 101.1 and KIIS 106.5 and alongside 97.3FM and Mix 102.3. Triple M is an Australian commercial radio network owned and operated by Southern Cross Austereo. The network consists of 40 radio stations broadcasting a mainstream rock music format and 5 digital radio stations. The network dates back to the launch of Triple M Sydney in 1980. The Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) is an organisation founded in 1980 to expose Aboriginal music and culture to the rest of Australia. It started with 8KIN-FM, the first Aboriginal radio station in the country.
