FIS Ski Jumping Alpen Cup
The FIS Ski Jumping Alpen Cup (known as Alpen Cup) is a ski jumping tournament held in Alps yearly by the International Ski Federation since 1990. History The first season of this competition took place in the 1990/91 season. The summer season was introduced in 1996/97. In the 1999/00 season two separate classifications, summer and winter, were introduced for the first time, while both together counted for overall classification. From the 2000-01 season one only overall classification exists, joining the points from summer and winter together. This competition is only for junior ski jumpers of maximum 20 years old. Until the 2005/06 season, the limit was 18 years old. Until the 2006-07 season, only jumpers from Alpine countries were allowed to compete. From the 2007/08 season onward, ski jumpers from Eastern European countries: Bulgarians, Czechs, Poles, Romanians, Slovaks and Hungarians, can compete too. Ski Jumping
Ski jumping is a winter sport in which competitors aim to achieve the farthest jump after sliding down on their skis from a specially designed curved ramp. Along with jump length, competitor's aerial style and other factors also affect the final score. Ski jumping was first contested in Norway in the late 19th century, and later spread through Europe and North America in the early 20th century. Along with cross-country skiing, it constitutes the traditional group of Nordic skiing disciplines. The ski jumping venue, commonly referred to as a ''hill'', consists of the jumping ramp (''in-run''), take-off table, and a landing hill. Each jump is evaluated according to the distance traveled and the style performed. The distance score is related to the construction point (also known as the ''K-point''), which is a line drawn in the landing area and serves as a "target" for the competitors to reach. Primož Peterka () is a Slovenian former ski jumper who competed from 1996 to 2011. He is one of the most successful athletes from Slovenia, having won fifteen individual World Cup competitions, two consecutive overall World Cup titles, a Ski Flying World Cup title, and the Four Hills Tournament. Career Peterka started ski jumping on a small hill (with a K-point at around 20 metres) near his hometown of Moravče, a small town about 30 km northeast from Ljubljana. He later joined the Triglav ski club in Kranj. 1995–1996 Peterka made his World Cup debut on 4 January 1996. Due to the poor performance of Slovenian competitors at the time, Peterka was brought in as a replacement for the Four Hills Tournament event in Innsbruck, where he finished eighth.
