FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2018
The FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2018 was the 25th ski flying world championships. It was held between 18 and 21 January 2018 in Oberstdorf, Germany and for the sixth time on this location. They hosted world championships at Heini-Klopfer-Skiflugschanze already in 1973, 1981, 1988, 1998 and 2008. There was total prize money of 142,000 swiss francs (72,000 for individual and 70,000 for team event). Peter Prevc was the defending individual champion and Norway ( Anders Fannemel, Johann André Forfang, Daniel-André Tande and Kenneth Gangnes) was defending the team title. Oberstdorf
Oberstdorf ( Low Alemannic: ''Oberschdorf'') is a municipality and skiing and hiking town in Germany, located in the Allgäu region of the Bavarian Alps. It is the southernmost settlement in Germany and one of its highest towns. At the center of Oberstdorf is a church whose tall spire serves as a landmark for navigating around town. Robert Johansson (ski Jumper)
Robert Høneren Johansson (born 23 March 1990) is a Norwegian ski jumper. He is a former ski flying world record holder, having landed a jump of in Vikersund on 18 March 2017. Johansson has often been nicknamed the "Wing Commander" for his distinctive handlebar moustache. Ski jumping career He finished fourth in the team competition at the 2009 Junior World Ski Championships, and also competed at the 2010 Junior World Ski Championships. In January 2012 he took his first Continental Cup podium, with a third place in Neustadt, and in March 2012 he won his first Continental Cup race in Kuopio. In the World Cup he has finished once among the top 15, with a 13th place from Kuusamo in November 2013. Primož Ulaga (born 20 July 1962) is a Yugoslav/Slovenian former ski jumper. Career Competing in two Winter Olympics, he won a silver medal in the team large hill competition at Calgary in 1988. Ole Gunnar Fidjestøl
Ole Gunnar Fidjestøl (born 21 March 1960) is a Norwegian former ski jumper. Career He won silver medals in the team large hill event at the Nordic World Ski Championships (1987, 1989) as well as a bronze medal in the team large hill at the 1988 Winter Olympics. Fidjestøl won the 1988 Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf and earned four additional career victories from 1985 to 1989. Armin Kogler
Armin Kogler (born 4 September 1959) is an Austrian former ski jumper. Career After his surprise win at the FIS Ski-Flying World Championships 1979, Kogler set a new record in Planica (1981) with a leap of 180 meters. He won two World Cup overall titles (1981 and 1982) along with a complete set of medals at the 1982 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships with gold in the individual normal hill, a silver in the team large hill, and a bronze in the individual large hill. Jari Markus Puikkonen (born 25 June 1959) is a Finnish former ski jumper. Career Puikkonen made his debut internationally in the Four Hills Tournament competition in Oberstdorf on 30 December 1977. He won his first World Cup victory at Innsbruck in 1981. That year he finished third overall in the Four Hills Tournament and he won three more victories in the ski jumping World Cup to finish fifth overall. Karel Kodejška (born 20 March 1947, in Lomnice nad Popelkou) is a Czech former ski jumper who competed from 1969 to 1976. Walter Steiner
Walter Steiner (born 15 February 1951) is a Swiss former ski jumper who competed in the 1970s. Career Steiner earned a ski jumping silver medal in the Individual large hill at the 1972 Winter Olympics. He also won the ski jumping competition at the Holmenkollen ski festival in 1974 and won the Ski Flying World Championships in 1972 and 1977. Hans-Georg Aschenbach
Hans-Georg Aschenbach (born 20 October 1951) is a former East German ski jumper. In 1969 he became junior world champion, and two years later won his first national title. He won the FIS Ski Flying World Championships in 1973. In 1974 he won the Four Hills Tournament, and both ski jumping events at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun. Owing to these achievements he was named the East German sportspersonality of the year. He sat out most of 1975 due to a knee injury, but recovered by the 1976 Winter Olympics, where he took the gold medal in the individual normal hill event. Dawid Kubacki
Dawid Grzegorz Kubacki ( ; born 12 March 1990) is a Polish ski jumper. He is a member of the national team and competed at the Winter Olympics in 2014, 2018 and 2022, winning two bronze medals.
