FIS Ski-Flying World Championships 2008
The FIS Ski Flying World Ski Championships 2008 took place on 21–24 February 2008 in Oberstdorf, Germany for the record tying fifth time, matching that of Planica, Slovenia. Oberstdorf hosted the championships previously in 1973, 1981, 1988, and 1998. For the first time, both events were held in the evening. Finland's Janne Ahonen won his record seventh medal though none of them have been gold with five silvers and two bronzes. Oberstdorf ( Low Alemannic: ''Oberschdorf'') is a municipality and skiing and hiking town in Germany, located in the Allgäu region of the Bavarian Alps. It is the southernmost settlement in Germany and one of its highest towns. At the center of Oberstdorf is a church whose tall spire serves as a landmark for navigating around town. Roar Ljøkelsøy
Roar Ljøkelsøy (born 31 May 1976) is a Norwegian former ski jumper who competed from 1993 to 2010, and twice finished runner up in the World Cup. Career He won his first individual World Cup event on 25 January 2003 and was a very consistent competitor in the 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons, finishing runner-up in both. In 2003–04 he won seven out of the last eleven competitions, finishing ten points short of eventual winner Janne Ahonen. In addition to winning eleven individual and three team World Cup events, Ljøkelsøy won the ski jumping event at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival in 2004. He then won the individual and team gold medal at the 2004 Ski Flying World Championships in Planica. Ski Jumping Competitions In Germany
A ski is a narrow strip of semi-rigid material worn underfoot to glide over snow. Substantially longer than wide and characteristically employed in pairs, skis are attached to ski boots with ski bindings, with either a free, lockable, or partially secured heel. For climbing slopes, ski skins (originally made of seal fur, but now made of synthetic materials) can be attached at the base of the ski. Anders Bardal
Anders Bardal (; born 24 August 1982) is a Norwegian former ski jumper. Career He participated in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, finishing 25th on the individual large hill. He was also part of the Norwegian team that finished ninth on the team large hill at those same games. Bardal won his first individual Ski jumping World Cup event in Zakopane on 27 January 2008. He won four silver medals in the team large hill event at the Ski Jumping World Championships ( 2007, 2009, and two medals on both normal and large hills in 2011). Tom André Hilde (; born 22 September 1987) is a Norwegian former ski jumper. Career Having first competed with the Norwegian World Cup team in 2006, he won two silver medals in the team large hill event at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships ( 2007, 2009). Anders Jacobsen (; born 17 February 1985) is a Norwegian former ski jumper. He competed at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics and won a team bronze medal in the large hill event in 2010. He is the youngest Norwegian winner of Four Hills Tournament. Career Early career He made his debut in the Continental Cup on 11 January 2003, where he finished in the 50th position. Janne Happonen
Janne Mikael Happonen (born 18 June 1984) is a Finnish former ski jumper who competed from 2001 to 2014, representing Puijo Ski Club. Career Happonen made his World Cup debut on 23 November 2001 in Kuopio, finishing an impressive eleventh in the individual large hill competition. Five years later he scored his first World Cup win on 5 March 2006, in a team competition in Willingen. This was followed up exactly a month later on 5 March, when Happonen won his first individual competition on the large hill in Lahti. Another individual win was achieved on 19 March at the ski flying hill in Planica. Happonen scored his third individual win on 3 March 2008 in Kuopio. Harri Olli
Harri Juhani Olli (born 15 January 1985) is a Finnish former ski jumper who competed at World Cup level from 2002 to 2016. He scored three individual World Cup wins, four individual Continental Cup wins, and an individual silver medal at the 2007 World Championships. Career Before the FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2008 in Oberstdorf, Olli had had a night out in a bar. Nonetheless both his jumps were over 200 metres, which gave him the sixth place in the final results. In August 2008 Olli was dismissed from the national team for a second time. He had been drunk during the Summer Grand Prix tour in central Europe and was late for the ride to the competition venue next morning. In July the police caught Olli for drunk driving and heavy speeding near Lapinlahti. Olli won one competition and placed third in another during the Summer tour.
