FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2007
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2007 were the 39th FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, held 2–18 February in Åre, Sweden. Åre previously hosted the world championships in 1954, and often hosts late season World Cup events. The FIS awarded the 2007 event in 2002; other finalists were Lillehammer, Norway, and Val-d'Isère, France, which was later selected to host the 2009 championships. These were the first world championships to use the "super-combined" format (one run each of downhill and slalom) for the combined event. First run on the World Cup circuit in 2005 at Wengen, the "super-combi" format (SC) made its debut at the Winter Olympics in 2010. The traditional combined format (K) consists of one downhill run and ''two'' slalom runs. François Bourque (born November 18, 1984 in New Richmond, Quebec) is a Canadian alpine skier. François Bourque Began his national debut in 2002. Bourque won the super-G event at the 2003 Junior World Championships and the combined event at the 2004 Junior World Championships. In the 2005 season, he picked up a third-place finish in the super-G in a World Cup event in Garmisch, Germany. In the 2006 season he picked up another third-place finish at a World Cup event, this time in the Giant Slalom in Alta Badia, Italy. Michael Janyk
Michael Janyk (born March 22, 1982, in Vancouver) is a Canadian retired alpine skier. Janyk appeared for the Canadian team in the slalom event at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where he finished in 17th place. Janyk has yet to win a World Cup race in his professional career, but has finished second on one occasion, December 3, 2006 in a slalom race in Beaver Creek. He also won the bronze medal in Slalom in February at the 2009 Alpine Skiing World Championship in Val d'Isère. He announced his retirement from the sport in March 2014. Along with team-mate Manuel Osborne-Paradis he established the Mike and Manny Foundation, which organises ski camps for children. Andrej "Jerry" Jerman, (born 30 September 1978), is a recently retired World Cup alpine ski racer from Slovenia. Born in Tržič, then in SFR Yugoslavia, Jerman specialized in the speed events of downhill and super G. He gained his first World Cup victory at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in February 2007 in a downhill, the first-ever for Slovenia. The next day he finished second, again in the downhill. Until then, his best World Cup result was fourth place in a downhill at Bormio, two months earlier. Jerman later gathered his second victory at Bormio, and finished his career with four World Cup podiums, all in downhill, and 27 top tens, with 18 in downhill.
