Noel Baxter
Noel Baxter (born 25 July 1981) is a Scottish alpine skier from Aviemore. He represented Britain at the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics. Skiing career He represented Great Britain in 2002 Olympics, coming 21st in the men's slalom. Despite good form in the 2009-2010 season, he was not picked for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. After retiring from competition Baxter became a coach for the Spanish national ski team. he now coaches the British Women's Alpine Team. Baxter, as with his brother Alain, also played shinty for Kincraig Camanachd. Family He is the half-brother of fellow Alpine skier, Alain Baxter Alain Baxter (born 26 December 1973) is a Scottish former alpine skier who was formerly a professional specialising in the slalom discipline. Aviemore
Aviemore (; gd, An Aghaidh Mhòr ) is a town and tourist resort, situated within the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands of Scotland. It is in the Badenoch and Strathspey committee area, within the Highland council area. The town is popular for skiing and other winter sports, and for hill-walking in the Cairngorm Mountains. Shinty Players
Shinty ( gd, camanachd, iomain) is a team game played with sticks and a ball. Shinty is now played mainly in the Scottish Highlands and amongst Highland migrants to the big cities of Scotland, but it was formerly more widespread in Scotland, and was even played in northern England into the second half of the 20th century and other areas in the world where Scottish Highlanders migrated. While comparisons are often made with field hockey the two games have several important differences. In shinty a player is allowed to play the ball in the air and is allowed to use both sides of the stick, called a ''caman'', which is wooden and slanted on both sides. The stick may also be used to block and to tackle, although a player may not come down on an opponent's stick, a practice called hacking. Lesley McKenna
Lesley McKenna (born 9 August 1974 in Aviemore, Badenoch and Strathspey) is a former British professional snowboarder based in Aviemore, Scotland. McKenna has to date competed in three Winter Olympic Games in 2002, 2006 and 2010 but has not won any medals. At the 2010 games, she crashed in both her qualification runs in the women's halfpipe and finished last. She has also competed on the world cup circuit for several years with more success achieving six podium positions including two first placings in 2003. She was ranked 3rd in the world by the FIS for halfpipe in 2004 despite suffering from a broken jaw which took her out for most of the season. Lesley was also an ambassador for Scotland and after competing worked as the international team manager for the branRoxywhich is the female sister brand of the surf brand Quiksilver.
