The FIBT World Championships 1990 took place in St. Moritz, Switzerland (Bobsleigh) and Königssee, West Germany (Skeleton). St. Moritz hosted a championship event for the record seventeenth time. Bogdan Musioł
Bogdan Musiol (born 25 July 1957 in Świętochłowice, Silesia, Poland) is an East German-German bobsledder who competed from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. The former shot putter started pushing bob sleighs in 1977 for pilot Horst Bernhard. Behind Horst Schönau he became world champion for the first time in 1978. He also pushed for Bernhard Germeshausen, Meinhard Nehmer, Bernhard Lehmann, Detlef Richter and finally Wolfgang Hoppe. Competing in five Winter Olympic Games, he won seven medals with one gold (Four-man: 1980), five silvers (Two-man: 1984, 1988; Four-man: 1984, 1988, 1992), and one bronze (Two-man: 1980). Wolfgang Hoppe (; born 14 November 1957, Apolda, Thuringia) is a former East German decathlete, bob pilot and 36-time international medal winner who competed from the early 1980s to the late 1990s. Competing in four Winter Olympics, he won six medals with two golds (Two-man: 1984, Four-man: 1984), three silvers (Two-man: 1988, Four-man: 1988, 1992), and one bronze (1994). At the opening ceremonies of the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, Hoppe carried the flag of Germany, who was competing as a unified nation in the Winter Olympics for the first time since the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Axel Jang (born 28 December 1968 in WerdauSaxony) is an East German-German bobsledder who competed in the early 1990s. Harald Czudaj (born 14 February 1963) is a German former bobsledder who competed during the 1990s. Competing in three Winter Olympics, he won a gold medal in the four-man event at Lillehammer in 1994. Czudaj also won four medals at the FIBT World Championships with two silvers (Two-man and four-man: both 1990 for East Germany) and two bronzes (Four-man: 1991, 1995, both for Germany). Gustav Weder (born 2 August 1961 in Diepoldsau) is a Swiss bobsledder who competed from the late 1980s to the early 1990s. Competing in three Winter Olympics, he won four medals with two gold (Two-man: 1992, 1994), one silver (Four-man: 1994), and one bronze (Four-man: 1992). Weder also won eight medals at the FIBT World Championships with four golds (Two-man: 1990, Four-man: 1989, 1990, 1993) and four silvers (Two-man: 1989, 1991, 1993; Four-man: 1991). FIBT World Championships 1979
The FIBT World Championships 1979 took place in Königssee, West Germany. It was the first championships that took place on an artificially refrigerated track. The track also hosted the luge world championships that same year, the first time that had ever happened in both bobsleigh and luge in a non-Winter Olympic year (Igls hosted both events for the 1976 games in neighboring Innsbruck.).
