Fürstenberg-Rennen
The Fürstenberg-Rennen is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to three-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run at a variety of German racecourses, over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 1¼ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. The race was run at Baden-Baden until 2010. History The event was established in 1880, and it was originally contested over 2,400 metres. For a period it was known as the Preis von Iffezheim. The distance of the race was modified several times during the early 1900s. It began a spell over 2,200 metres in 1957. The present race grading system was introduced in Germany in 1972, and the Fürstenberg-Rennen was given Group 3 status. It was cut to 2,000 metres in 2001. The event was titled the Belmondo-Preis in 2010. It was held at Hanover as the Grosser Preis des Audi Zentrums Hannover in 2011. North Stoke (horse)
North Stoke (4 April 1974 – 1979) was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He showed promise when winning two of his three races as a two-year-old in 1976. In the following year he was campaigned internationally and made consistent improvement to emerge as one of the leading middle-distance colts of the year with six consecutive victories. After two wins in handicap races in England he took the Grand Prix de Bruxelles in Belgium, the Land of Burns Stakes in Scotland, the Fürstenberg-Rennen in Germany and the Joe McGrath Memorial Stakes in Ireland. Despite a defeat in the Champion Stakes he was rated the best British-trained colt of his generation by Timeform. Carroll House
Carroll House (5 March 1985 – 8 February 2008) was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a racing career which lasted from September 1987 until July 1990 he raced twenty times in six countries and won seven races. His most important win came in October 1989 when he won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in Paris. His other wins included the Phoenix Champion Stakes, Grosser Preis von Baden, Princess of Wales's Stakes, Furstenberg Rennen and Welsh Derby. At the end of his racing career he was retired to become a breeding stallion in Japan and Ireland but had little success as a sire of winners. Background Carroll House was a chestnut colt with a white star bred in Ireland by Mrs P Clarke. He was sired by Lord Gayle, an American-bred stallion who won the Prix Perth in 1970. Robert Collet
Robert Collet (born 6 May 1948 in Chantilly, Oise) is a French thoroughbred racehorse trainer. Robert Collet was one of the first European trainers to win a Breeders' Cup race when he won the 1986 edition of the Breeders' Cup Mile at Hollywood Park Racetrack with Last Tycoon. Michael Jarvis
Michael Jarvis (14 August 1938 – 20 September 2011) was a Thoroughbred horse trainer in England. Based in Newmarket, Jarvis trained numerous Group One winners including three winners of the British Haydock Sprint Cup. Jarvis's horses also won important races in Ireland, Germany and Italy. He kept approximately 80 horses in training, and his main jockey was Philip Robinson. Jarvis's career spanned almost 40 years from his first win at the top-rated Haydock Sprint Cup in 1969 to his 2007 win of the Italian Premio Roma. He announced his decision to retire on 22 February 2011 with almost immediate effect, handing over the yard to his long-time assistant Roger Varian. This was due to ill health – Jarvis had undergone surgery for a heart condition and was also suffering from prostate cancer, and said in the months running up to his retirement that his health had deteriorated. Hoppegarten is a municipality in the district Märkisch-Oderland, in Brandenburg, Germany. History The current municipality was created in 2003 when the former municipalities of Hönow and Münchehofe were united with Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten. The old Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten is now a district composed by Birkenstein and Waldesruh. Patrick James John Eddery (18 March 1952 – 10 November 2015) was an Irish flat racing jockey and trainer. He rode three winners of the Derby and was Champion Jockey on eleven occasions. He rode the winners of 4,632 British flat races, a figure exceeded only by Sir Gordon Richards. Background Eddery was born in Newbridge, County Kildare, less than 2 miles from the Curragh Racecourse, and his birth was registered in Dublin. He was the fifth child of Jimmy Eddery, a jockey who rode Panaslipper to win the Irish Derby in 1955, and Josephine (the daughter of jockey Jack Moylan). Andreas Schütz
Andreas Schütz (born 19 February 1968) is a Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. From a prominent racing family, he is the fourth generation to train professionally. Andreas Schütz started out as an amateur jockey, winning four German championships from 1984–1987 and the European championship in 1987. In 1992 he began working as an assistant trainer for his father Bruno Schütz who had built one of the Germany's most successful public training stables. Due to health problems, his father retired and in 1998 Andreas took over the running of the stable. Highly successful, Andreas Schütz has won numerous German Group one races including the five wins in both the Deutsches Derby and the Preis der Diana.
