Félix Pérez Cardozo
Félix Pérez Cardozo (20 November 1908 – 9 June 1952) was a Paraguayan harpist. Pérez Cardozo died on June 9, 1952, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Beginnings Pérez Cardozo was born to Teodoro Pérez and Cándida Rosa Cardozo in the small town of Félix Pérez Cardozo, Paraguay, Hyaty in the state of Guaira Department, Guairá. As is common amongst musicians of the Paraguayan countryside, Pérez Cardozo learned the basics of playing from other harpists, without seeking tutelage from any one master. He was part of a paradigmatic trio consisting of one harp and two guitars, along with Ampelio Villalba and Diosnel Chase. He received support from the poet Pedro José Carlés, with whom he traveled to the Paraguayan capital city Asunción in 1928. During this time they would play at folk music festivals organized in the "Teatro Granados" by Aristóbulo "Nonón" Domínguez, as well as in night clubs. Félix Pérez Cardozo is a town and district located in the Guairá Department of Paraguay. It is located approximately from the national capital Asunción. In this town, its inhabitants are dedicated to the cultivation of sugar cane and tobacco, as well as crafts, especially Ao po'i embroidery. History Félix Pérez Cardozo was founded by Governor Agustín Fernando de Pinedo on 15 September 1773; initially it was known by the name of Hyaty. Herminio Giménez
Herminio Giménez (February 20, 1905 – July 6, 1991) was a Paraguayan composer. Life At the early age of 11 he was already part of the Paraguarí music band and two years later he was hired to be part of the Asunción marching band. While at the marching band he made his first successful song, a polca named ''Jasy Morotí'', in 1918. He was the first person to record Paraguayan music in an album, in 1927. The continued beauty of his works throughout the years positioned Giménez as one of the greatest Latin American composers. During the Chaco War he was assigned as the Director of the Military band and once the war was over he received several awards. Due to the dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner's government, Giménez went into exile in Argentina. He spent most of his time in the city of Corrientes. Atahualpa Yupanqui (; born Héctor Roberto Chavero Aramburu; 31 January 1908 – 23 May 1992) was an Argentine singer, songwriter, guitarist, and writer. He is considered the most important Argentine folk musician of the 20th century. Biography Yupanqui was born Héctor Roberto Chavero Aramburu in Pergamino (Buenos Aires Province), in the Argentine pampas, about 200 kilometers away from Buenos Aires. His father was a mestizo of Quechua and Basque origins, while his mother was born in the Basque country. His family moved to the Northwest city of Tucumán when he was nine. Rigoberto Fontao Meza (December 29, 1900 – December 29, 1936) was a Paraguayan poet. He is considered by some to be one of the greatest poets of the Paraguayan native canon. He wrote highly descriptive poems in Spanish, Guarani and Jopara. He died in Asunción, Paraguay, on his birthday, December 29, 1936, at the age of 36. Biography The son of Benjamín Fontao and Marciana Meza, he was born in Tape Ka'aty, located in the San Pedro Department, Paraguay, on December 29, 1900. He was friends with many of the composers of his time, including José Asunción Flores. Flores composed the lyrics of the songs "Arribeño Resay", "Ka'aty" and the first version of "India" for him. He wrote the lyrics of "El Arriero", with Félix Pérez Cardozo composing a song for it later. The piece has since been interpreted by numerous people. Antonio Ortiz Mayans (June 20, 1908 – May 7, 1995) was a Paraguayan writer and composer.
