Félix Baumaine
Félix Baumaine, full name Félix Gratien Baumaine, (4 December 1828 – 3 January 1881Archives des Hauts de Seine, commune de Courbevoie, death certificate n°4, year 1881 (accessdate 5 May 2015)) was a 19th-century French playwright, composer and chansonnier. The son of Joseph Baumaine, director of the shows in the city of Reims, Felix Baumaine is known for his collaboration with Charles Blondelet with whom he composed many songs played especially in cafés-concerts. He was thus himself the author of 1300 songs. During the last years of his life, Félix Baumaine was administrator of the café-concert des Ambassadeurs. He was the father of actress Juliette Baumaine. Reims
Reims ( , , ; also spelled Rheims in English) is the most populous city in the French department of Marne, and the 12th most populous city in France. The city lies northeast of Paris on the Vesle river, a tributary of the Aisne. Founded by the Gauls, Reims became a major city in the Roman Empire. Reims later played a prominent ceremonial role in French monarchical history as the traditional site of the coronation of the kings of France. Courbevoie () is a commune located in the Hauts-de-Seine Department of the Île-de-France region of France. It is in the suburbs of the city of Paris, from the center of Paris. The centre of Courbevoie is situated from the city limits of Paris. A playwright or dramatist is a person who writes plays. Etymology The word "play" is from Middle English pleye, from Old English plæġ, pleġa, plæġa ("play, exercise; sport, game; drama, applause"). The word "wright" is an archaic English term for a craftsman or builder (as in a wheelwright or cartwright). The words combine to indicate a person who has "wrought" words, themes, and other elements into a dramatic form—a play. (The homophone with "write" is coincidental.) Chansonnier (singer)
A ''chansonnier'' (female: ''chansonnière'') was a poet songwriter, a solitary singer, who sang his or her own songs (''chansons'') with a guitar, prominent in francophone countries during the 1960s and 1970s. Unlike popular singers, ''chansonniers'' need no artifice to sing their soul poetry. They performed in "''Les Boites à Chansons''" which flourished during those years. The themes of their songs varied but included nature, love, simplicity and a social interest to improve their world. (French: lit. 'singing café'), , or , is a type of musical establishment associated with the Belle Époque in France. The music was generally lighthearted and sometimes risqué or even bawdy but, as opposed to the cabaret tradition, not particularly political or confrontational.
