The Fédération étudiante collégiale du Québec (FECQ) (in English : ''College students federation of Quebec'') is a federation of college student unions, created in March 1990 after the failure of the 1989 strike (its first motto was «Plus jamais la grève!», in English: ''The strike, never again!''). The FECQ mainly use lobbying with political parties to represent the students interests. At its peak, the FECQ claims to have represented 27 student associations and over 72,000 CÉGEP students - however, there is controversy about the actual number of members it has. A CEGEP ( or ; ), also written cégep, CÉGEP and cegep, is a publicly funded college providing technical, academic, vocational or a mix of programs; they are exclusive to the province of Quebec's education system. A loanword from French, it originates from the French acronym for , sometimes known in English as a "General and Vocational College"—it is now considered a word in itself. Although all colleges in Quebec are colloquially referred to as CEGEPs, only public colleges are officially referred to by that name. Both public (CEGEPs) and private colleges have the same function in Quebec. Léo Bureau-Blouin
Léo Bureau-Blouin (born December 17, 1991) is a former Quebec politician who in the 2012 provincial election at age 20 became the youngest person ever to be elected as a member of the National Assembly of Quebec. He was elected in the district of Laval-des-Rapides for the Parti Québécois. He was previously a student leader, president of the Fédération étudiante collégiale du Québec, who played a key role in organizing the 2012 Quebec student protests. He lost his seat in the 2014 general election on April 7 to the Quebec Liberal Party candidate Saul Polo. Bureau-Blouin was born in Montreal and grew up in Saint-Hyacinthe. Association Pour Une Solidarité Syndicale étudiante
The Association pour une solidarité syndicale étudiante (ASSÉ) was a Canadian student union founded in February 2001 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, which contained about 56,000 CEGEP and university-level students in 34 member student unions throughout Quebec. The ASSÉ positioned itself distinctly from the other province-wide student unions, the Fédération étudiante universitaire du Québec (FEUQ), the Fédération étudiante collégiale du Québec (FECQ) and the Table de concertation étudiante du Québec (TaCEQ), namely rejecting hierarchical leadership structures in favor or autonomous and horizontal approaches. The ASSÉ formed the core of the Coalition large de l'ASSÉ (CLASSE), a temporary coalition created to counter the tuition hike and coordinate 2012 Quebec student protests.
