Fédération Française Aéronautique
The Fédération française aéronautique (FFA), (Fédération nationale aéronautique, FNA, before 2004) founded in 1929 and being recognized as a public service in 1933, is a French association which represents the majority of aeroclubs. Its mission is: * Assist and defend aeroclubs * Preserve the number and quality of French aerodromes * Develop and ease recognition of aeronautics * Ease the formation of pilots in aeroclubs * Help the youngest and evangelise aeronautics activities * Contribute, as interlocutor of the Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile, to enact the regulations and defend interests of private pilots * Organise activities and aeronautics tests in France and abroad (attribution of regional or national titles, selection of French representatives at internationals competitions or exhibitions) As of 2007, the FFA includes about 600 aeroclubs over 450 aerodromes, 42,000 pilots, 2,200 instructors and 2,200 aircraft. Voluntary Association
A voluntary group or union (also sometimes called a voluntary organization, common-interest association, association, or society) is a group of individuals who enter into an agreement, usually as volunteering, volunteers, to form a body (or organization) to accomplish a purpose. Common examples include trade associations, trade unions, learned society, learned societies, professional associations, and environmental movement, environmental groups. All such associations reflect freedom of association in ultimate terms (members may choose whether to join or leave), although membership is not necessarily voluntary in the sense that one's employment may effectively require it via occupational closure. Flying Club
A flying club or aero club is a not-for-profit, member-run organization that provides its members with affordable access to aircraft. Many clubs also provide flight training, flight planning facilities, pilot supplies and associated services, as well as organizing social functions, fly-ins and fly-outs to other airports and so forth. While flying clubs are home to those who pursue flying as a hobby, many commercial pilots also get their start at flying clubs. Most flying clubs own and rent small general aviation aircraft. In North America and Europe the most popular such aircraft are the Cessna 152, the Cessna 172, and the Piper Cherokee. However some clubs also exist to provide access to more specialized aircraft, such as vintage planes, aerobatic planes, helicopters and gliders. Aerodrome
An aerodrome (Commonwealth English) or airdrome (American English) is a location from which aircraft flight operations take place, regardless of whether they involve air cargo, passengers, or neither, and regardless of whether it is for public or private use. Aerodromes include small general aviation airfields, large commercial airports, and military air bases. The term ''airport'' may imply a certain stature (having satisfied certain certification criteria or regulatory requirements) that not all aerodromes may have achieved. That means that all airports are aerodromes, but not all aerodromes are airports. Usage of the term "aerodrome" remains more common in Ireland and Commonwealth nations, and is conversely almost unknown in American English, where the term "airport" is applied almost exclusively. Direction Générale De L'Aviation Civile
The Directorate General for Civil Aviation (french: Direction générale de l'aviation civile, DGAC) is the French civil aviation authority. Its headquarters are in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, 50 Henry-Farman. It is subordinate to the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy. The DGAC levies a civil aviation tax on several flights operating from France. History The Secretariat General for Civil and Commercial Aviation (SGACC) was formed on 12 September 1946 by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works. The first secretary general of the newly-formed organisation was Max Hymans (1900-1961), who had been named to the post nine months previously in December 1945.
