Future With Confidence
The Future with Confidence (french: L'Avenir en confiance, AEC) is a liberal-conservative and anti-independence electoral alliance of political parties in New Caledonia. It forms part of the anti-separatist and French loyalist bloc in the Congress of New Caledonia. The alliance was founded in February 2019 as a common list for the 2019 New Caledonian legislative election and contains an amalgamation of four political parties which include: The Caledonian Republicans, The Rally, The Caledonian People's Movement (MPC) and All Caledonians. Ideologically, the group holds the common aim of opposing separatist and nationalist movements in New Caledonia by supporting New Caledonia's status as part of overseas France. Virginie Ruffenach
Virginie Ruffenach (born 19 September 1973 in Noumea) is a politician from New Caledonia. She is a member of The Rally and the chairperson of the Future with Confidence alliance in the Congress of New Caledonia. Biography Ruffenach was born in Noumea and grew up in town of Dumbéa where her parents worked. She left New Caledonia to study a degree in chemistry at the University of Strasbourg before working as a teacher and a school inspector. Caledonian People's Movement (french: Mouvement Populaire Calédonien; abbreviated MPC) is a conservative and anti-separatist political party in New Caledonia founded in 2013 by Gaël Yanno, a former President of the Congress of New Caledonia and MP in the National Assembly of France representing the New Caledonia constituency. Nouméa Accord
The Nouméa Accord of 1998 is a promise by the French Republic to grant increased political power to New Caledonia and its original population, the Kanaks, over a twenty-year transition period. It was signed 5 May 1998 by Lionel Jospin, and approved in a referendum in New Caledonia on 8 November, with 72% voting in favour. Under the accord, two more referendum votes, on whether to remain a special collectivity of France or become an independent state, have been held. One was held in 2018, and the second was held in 2020. In both votes a majority chose to remain French. The Nouméa Accord permitted a final referendum to be held, voted for by the Congress of New Caledonia. It was held December 2021 and overwhelmingly rejected independence. Under the Nouméa Accord, France has continued to control military and foreign policy, immigration, police and currency. Future Together (french: l'Avenir Ensemble, ) was a center-right political party in New Caledonia supporting the maintenance of political and administrative ties with France. The Congress of New Caledonia (french: Congrès de la Nouvelle-Calédonie), a "territorial congress" (''congrès territorial'' or ''congrès du territoire''), is the legislature of New Caledonia. It has 54 members who serve five-year terms, selected proportionally based on the partisan makeup of all three assemblies of the provinces of New Caledonia with a 5% threshold.
