Fusconaia Flava
''Fusconaia flava'', the Wabash pigtoe, is a freshwater mussel in the family Unionidae. Description The shell is divided into two valves that are hinged. ''Fusconaia flava'' shell is thick and can be compressed or inflated, has a triangular to an elongate triangle shape. Nacre (the inside layer of the shell) is white, but sometimes the nacre can be pink or salmon color. Life cycle ''Fusconaia flava'' males release sperm and the females collect the sperm through the incurrent siphon. The eggs are fertilized internally. ''Fusconaia flava'' has a parasitic larva stage called glochidia, the mussels use a lure to attract fish and then release the glochidia when the fish is close enough. The glochidia latch onto the gills or fins of the fish and remain there feeding of the blood of the fish until the glochidia reach the juvenile stage. Unionidae
The Unionidae are a family of freshwater mussels, the largest in the order Unionida, the bivalve molluscs sometimes known as river mussels, or simply as unionids. The range of distribution for this family is world-wide. It is at its most diverse in North America, with about 297 recognised taxa, but China and Southeast Asia also support very diverse faunas. Freshwater mussels occupy a wide range of habitats, but most often occupy lotic waters, i.e. flowing water such as rivers, streams and creeks. Origin and early diversification The recent phylogenetic study reveals that the Unionidae most likely originated in Southeast and East Asia in the Jurassic, with the earliest expansions into North America and Africa (since the mid-Cretaceous) followed by the colonization of Europe and India (since the Paleocene). The silver shiner (''Notropis photogenis'') is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus ''Notropis''. It is found in the United States and Canada where it inhabits much of the Ohio River basin south to northern Georgia in the Tennessee River drainage. It also found in western Lake Erie tributaries and the Grand River system in Ontario. Semotilus Atromaculatus
''Semotilus atromaculatus'', known as the creek chub or the common creek chub, is a small minnow, a freshwater fish found in the eastern US and Canada. Differing in size and color depending on origin of development, the creek chub can usually be defined by a dark brown body with a black lateral line spanning horizontally across the body. It lives primarily within streams and rivers. Creek Chubs attain lengths of 2-6 inches with larger specimens of up to 12 inches possible. The genus name ''Semotilus'' derives from the Greek word ''sema'' (also known as dorsal fin), and ''atromaculatus'' comes from the Latin word "black spots".
