Andrew Furey
Andrew John Furey (born July 1975) is a Canadian politician and surgeon who has served as the 14th premier of Newfoundland and Labrador since August 19, 2020. A member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Liberal Party, Furey represents Humber-Gros Morne in the House of Assembly. As of 2022, he is the only premier of a province whose government is controlled by the Liberal Party. Early life and career Andrew John Furey was born and raised in St. John's in July 1975. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) and graduated from the MUN School of Medicine in 2001. Clara Furey (born 1983) is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist: singer-songwriter, actress, dancer and choreographer. Biography Clara Furey studied classical piano, music theory, harmony and analysis at the Conservatoire de Paris. She later became interested in dance and acting and graduated from the Montreal Modern Dance Studios in 2003. As a singer-songwriter she performed a piano-voice show at the Cabaret du Saint-Sulpice in Montreal and was a singer for a Rozankovic show at the Montreal World Film Festival. Sean Furey (born August 31, 1982) is an American Olympic javelin thrower with a personal best of 83.08 meters (272 feet, 7 inches). He has placed in the top three at the U.S. National Championships six times, winning the javelin event in 2010, 2014 and 2015. Cohl Furey, also known as Nichol Furey, is a Canadian mathematical physicist. Career Furey has a bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics from Simon Fraser University (2005), Master's degree from the University of Cambridge (2006) and a Ph.D in theoretical physics from the University of Waterloo (2015). She was a research fellow at the University of Cambridge from 2016 to 2019 and spent a few months at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cape Town. George J. Furey (born May 12, 1948) is a Canadian politician who has served as the speaker of the Senate of Canada since December 3, 2015. Furey was appointed as a senator from Newfoundland and Labrador in 1999 and is the longest-serving member of the Senate. Kirk Furey (born January 28, 1976 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who is a coach in the youth ranks of EC KAC of the ICE Hockey League. Playing career After three years in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Owen Sound Platers, Furey played a year with the Cape Breton Islanders of the Maritime Junior Hockey League before attending Acadia University where he starred with the Acadia Axemen. In his rookie year at Acadia in 1997–98, the Axemen reached the national final, only to lose to the UNB Varsity Reds. Charles "Chuck" Furey (born March 6, 1954) is a Canadian former politician, who represented the electoral district of St. Barbe in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1985 to 2000. The son of Leo Furey and Mary Bruce, he was born in Avondale and was educated in Antigonish and later St. John's, at St. Francis Xavier University and at Memorial University. In 1978, Furey married Diane Baird. Before entering politics, he was a high school teacher.
