''Funes, a Great Love'' ( es, Funes, un gran amor) is a 1993 Argentine musical drama film directed by Raúl de la Torre and starring Graciela Borges, Gian Maria Volonté, Pepe Soriano, Moria Casán and Andrea Del Boca. It is based on a novel by Humberto Costantini. The film consists of a series of flashbacks told by one of the characters, which date back to the 1930s and take place in a brothel in a small town in Argentina. María Nieves Rego (born September 6, 1934) is an Argentine tango dancer and choreographer who starred with her long time dance partner Juan Carlos Copes in the 1983 musical ''Tango Argentino''. Early life Born in the Saavedra district of Buenos Aires, she was the daughter of modest Galician emigrants. After her father died, she left school in the 4th grade to work as a maid in La Boca. She was introduced to the tango by her elder sister known as La Ñata. When she was 14 years old, the 17-year-old Juan Carlos Copes took her as his dance partner; the two would soon become lovers. Career Nieves and Juan Carlos Copes brought the tango and the milonga to audiences throughout the world. Juan Carlos Copes (31 May 1931 – 16 January 2021) was an Argentine tango dancer, choreographer, and performer. He started dancing with Maria Nieves when he was 17 and she 14, and the pair later married. Copes and Nieves played a leading role in the renaissance in Tango dancing from the 1970s and, particularly, in Argentine Tango following the 1983 restoration of democracy in that country. Copes was the first to create choreographed tango stage shows and also worked on seven films. Later in his career he partnered with his daughter, Johana, from his second marriage. Biography Susana Natividad Rinaldi was born to a wealthy father and a poor mother in Buenos Aires in 1935.
