Fun (stylized as fun.) is an American pop rock band based in New York City. The band consists of Jack Antonoff (of Steel Train and Bleachers), Andrew Dost (formerly of Anathallo), and Nate Ruess (then-former lead singer of the Format). Fun formed in 2008, and their debut studio album, ''Aim and Ignite'', was released in 2009 to moderate commercial success. The band rose to prominence with the release of their second album, '' Some Nights'', in 2012. The album peaked at number three on the U.S. ''Billboard'' 200 chart, and topped ''Billboard'''s Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts. It spawned the singles "We Are Young" featuring Janelle Monáe, " Some Nights" and "Carry On", all of which reached the top 20 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 with "We Are Young" peaking at number one. ''Some Nights'' is the second studio album by the American pop rock group fun. It was released on February 21, 2012, through Fueled by Ramen. It was recorded in 2011 and produced by Jeff Bhasker. After signing to the new label, the band began to work on ''Some Nights'' for over nine months throughout 2011. "We Are Young" was released as the lead single from the album and bolstered the band to mainstream success with the aid of television and advertising. It topped the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 for six weeks and Alternative Songs for two weeks, with over six million digital downloads. Andrew Dost
Andrew Paul Dost (born April 10, 1983) is an American musician, singer and is member of the indie rock band Fun., in which he plays several instruments, mainly the piano. He was formerly a member of the indie rock band Anathallo from 2003 to 2007. Early and personal life Andrew Dost was born to father Mark Dost, a retired teacher at Frankfort High School, and mother Cheryl, also a retired teacher at Frankfort High School. Dost grew up in Cass City, Michigan and Mount Pleasant, Michigan. He graduated from Frankfort High School in Michigan as valedictorian in 2001, and graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in journalism in 2005. Nate Ruess is an American singer and songwriter. He is best known as the founder and lead singer of the indie pop band Fun, and of The Format. As of 2015, he also performs as a solo musician. "Carry On" is a song by American indie pop band fun. It was released on 23 October 2012 as the third single off their second album, '' Some Nights''. The song was written by the band members, Nate Ruess, Andrew Dost, Jack Antonoff, alongside the album's producer, Jeff Bhasker. Composition "Carry On" has been called "a song about perseverance in hard times", which is supported by a rock-anthem sound written in F major and composed in 12/8 time. Jack Michael Antonoff (born March 31, 1984) is an American singer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and record producer. Antonoff is the lead singer of rock band Bleachers, and is the guitarist and drummer in the pop rock band Fun. He was previously the lead singer of the indie rock band Steel Train. Bleachers is an American rock band from New Jersey and the official stage name of songwriter and record producer Jack Antonoff. Anathallo
Anathallo was a band originally from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and then based in Chicago, Illinois. The band started practicing in the fall of 2000 and played their first show soon afterward. Their name is derived from a Greek word meaning "to renew, refresh or bloom again." Anathallo released '' Floating World'', their first nationally distributed record, in 2006 through Sony/BMG. The band released a follow-up, entitled ''Canopy Glow'', on Anticon in 2008. History Anathallo was formed in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, in 2000. Grammy Award For Best New Artist
The Grammy Award for Best New Artist has been awarded since 1959. Years reflect the year in which the Grammy Awards were handed out, for records released in the previous year. The award was not presented in 1967. The official guidelines are as follows: "For a new artist who releases, during the Eligibility Year, the first recording which establishes the public identity of that artist." Note that this is not necessarily the first album released by an artist; for example, Shelby Lynne won the award in 2001 after having already released six albums over 13 years. The Best New Artist award has a reputation for being given to artists whose music industry success ends up being short-lived; it is sometimes asserted, with varying degrees of sincerity, that the award itself brings a curse.
