Dario Argento (; born 7 September 1940) is an Italian film director, producer, screenwriter, actor and film critic, critic. ''The Bird with the Crystal Plumage'' () is a 1970 giallo film directed by Dario Argento, in his directorial debut. The film has been credited with popularizing giallo, an Italian genre of thriller developed in the 1960s. It is the first in what has been called the "Animal Trilogy", along with Argento's next two gialli, ''The Cat o' Nine Tails'' (1971) and ''Four Flies on Grey Velvet'' (1972) (though the three films are connected only by their titles). ''Phenomena'' is a 1985 Italian supernatural horror giallo film directed by Dario Argento and starring Jennifer Connelly, Daria Nicolodi, and Donald Pleasence. The plot concerns an American girl at a remote Swiss boarding school who discovers she has psychic powers that allow her to communicate with insects, and uses them to pursue a serial killer who is butchering young women at and around the school.
