Fulbert of Chartres (french: Fulbert de Chartres; 952–970–10 April 1028) was the Bishop of Chartres from 1006 to 1028 and a teacher at the Cathedral school there. Fulbert was a pupil of Gerbert of Aurillac, who would later become Pope Sylvester II. He was responsible for the advancement of the Nativity of the Virgin's feast day on September 8 and for one of the many reconstructions of the Chartres Cathedral. Most of the available information about him is found in the letters he wrote from 1004–1028 to both secular and religious figures of the day. Fulbert of Falaise ( fl. 11th century) was a Chamberlain of the Duke of Normandy and the maternal grandfather of William the Conqueror. Little direct testimony survives of Fulbert. Early 12th century additions made by Norman chronicler Orderic Vitalis to the ''Gesta Normannorum Ducum'' report that William the Conqueror was born at Falaise, in Normandy, to an extramarital relationship between Robert I, Duke of Normandy and Herleva, daughter of Fulbert, the one-time Duke's Chamberlain (''cubicularii ducis''), an office to which he was likely appointed after William's birth.
