The Chinese Fountain ( es, Fuente China), also known as the Three Races Fountain ( es, Fuente de las Tres Razas) is a fountain monument in the Park of the Exhibition of Lima, Peru. Overview The work has a marble sculpture at the top, the work of the Italian sculptor Valmore Gemignani, with three characters that represent the fraternity of the human races, the white, the yellow and the black, for which it is also called the ''Fountain of the Three Races''. On the sides are two allegories that represent the Amazon and Yellow rivers, made in bronze by the sculptor Ettore Graziosi. Park Of The Exhibition
The Park of the Exposition (Spanish: Parque de la Exposición) is a park located in the neighborhood of downtown Lima, capital of Peru. History The park was occupied by the south gate of the Walls of Lima, known as ''Puerta de Guadalupe''. In the 1870s President José Balta ordered the demolition of these walls within its modernization plan of the city. It was planned that this location would be aimed at building a park that would house the Lima International Exhibition of 1872. Thus, alongside the park, rose the Exhibition Palace (now the Lima Art Museum). The park plan was made by and Italian architect Antonio Leonardi. Its design was neo-Renaissance and included the construction of pavilions including a zoo and other buildings. Leonardi also designed the Exhibition Palace. The history of Peru between 1919 and 1930 corresponds to the second presidency of Augusto B. Leguía, who won the 1919 Peruvian presidential election, elections of 1919 but soon after took power through a 1919 Peruvian coup d'état, coup d'état as president-elect on July 4 of the same year. ''La yunta'', also known as ''El trabajo'' or ''Los bueyes'', is a bronze sculpture in the Paseo de los Héroes Navales, Lima, Peru. Description The sculpture represents the moment in which a farmer works the land with two yoked oxen and a plough. It is an indigenous motif that was commissioned by the Chinese colony in Peru, together with the sculpture ''Las llamas'' by Agustín Rivera, as a gift to the city of Lima for the fourth centenary of the Spanish foundation of Lima. It was located on the Paseo de la República in 1937, although successive reforms of the place made it lose the pedestal. ''Las llamas'' is a sculpture by Agustín Rivera Eyzaguirre located on the Paseo de los Héroes Navales in Lima, Peru. It was a gift from the Chinese colony in Peru for the fourth centenary of the Spanish foundation of Lima. Description The statue is a sculptural monument made of bronze that includes a set of sculptures made up of four representations of llamas in a round shape, they are standing with their gaze oriented to the south side. In the lower part, there is a metal base that serves as a support for the sculptural ensemble. Chinese Arch, Lima
The Chinese Arch ( es, Arco Chino), also known as the Chinese Portal ( es, Portada China), is a paifang located at the entrance of Lima's Barrio Chino (Lima), Chinatown. It was donated by the Chinese Peruvians, Peruvian Chinese colony for the Sesquicentennial of the Independence of Peru and inaugurated with a great party on November 12, 1971, by the mayor of Lima Eduardo Dibós Chappuis, Eduardo Dibós as part of the remodeling and enhancement of the area as a tourist attraction. In 2017, two 1.80-metre, 2.5-ton sculptures of lions located in the arch were unveiled. Overview The monument is built in the form of a paifang, which is a style of gate in traditional Chinese architecture, resembling an arch. It measures 8 metres high and 13 wide. Chinese Peruvians
Chinese Peruvians, also known as ''tusán'' (a loanword from ), are Peruvian citizens whose ancestors came from China. They are people of overseas Chinese ancestry born in Peru or who have made Peru their adopted homeland. 14,307 Peruvians claim Chinese descent. Due to acculturation, most Chinese Peruvians do not speak the language of their Asian ancestors. However, some can speak one or more varieties of Chinese that may include Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka and Minnan (Hokkien), in addition to Spanish. Outside of the predominant Amerindian, mestizo, white, and black populations, Chinese are estimated to constitute less than 1% of the Peruvian population.
