Frosty Forst
Brian "Frosty" Forst (born September 6, 1938) is a former broadcaster on CKNW radio in Vancouver, British Columbia. He retired in May 2005 after about 40 years on the air at the same station and as the highest-rated radio personality in western Canada. Early history Forst was raised in Vancouver's Kerrisdale neighborhood. He comes from a prominent local family; the Forst family business (in furniture and appliances) had several locations around the Lower Mainland. Forst Stores sponsored the noon news on the hillbilly station in New Westminster for many years. Forst graduated from Magee High School in 1956 and pursued his passion for radio by taking a training course in broadcasting run by John Ansell of CKWX. Through contacts at school he made a connection with CKDV-FM, CKPG in north-central British Columbia. CKNW
CKNW is a news/talk formatted radio station in Vancouver, British Columbia, owned by Corus Entertainment. It broadcasts on an assigned frequency of AM 980 kHz, and is unusual in that it is a 50,000-watt, Class A station broadcasting on a regional (not clear-channel) frequency. CKNW uses a four-tower directional antenna from a site near Surrey, while its studios are located at TD Tower in Downtown Vancouver. History CKNW began in New Westminster, British Columbia, on August 15, 1944, at its original frequency of 1230 AM, under the ownership of Bill Rea's International Broadcasting Company. It was Vancouver's first country station, the first in the region to provide hourly newscasts (between 6:00 a.m. and midnight) and the first in the province to broadcast 24 hours a day, beginning in 1947. CKDV-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 99.3 FM in Prince George, British Columbia. The station plays a classic hits format branded as ''99.3 Rewind Radio''. The station is owned by Jim Pattison Group. History The station was originally launched in 1946 as CKPG 1230 AM, and moved to 550 the following year. The station, owned by CKPG Radio Ltd., was an affiliate of the CBC's Trans-Canada Network. In 1961, CKPG Radio also launched the city's first television station, CKPG-TV. CKPK-FM (102.7 FM, ''102.7 Now! Radio'') is a radio station in Vancouver, British Columbia. Owned by Pattison Media, it broadcasts an adult contemporary format. Its studios are located on West 8th Avenue in the Fairview neighbourhood of Vancouver, while its transmitter is located atop Mount Seymour. The station first signed on with an experimental license in 1923 as CFXC, and was renamed CJOR in 1926. It moved to its long-time home of 600 AM in 1930. CKGO (730 AM) is a commercial radio station in Vancouver, British Columbia, owned by Corus Entertainment and calling itself ''AM 730''. It broadcasts a highway advisory format. Its radio studios and offices are in the TD Tower in Downtown Vancouver. CKGO transmits with a power output of 50,000 watts, the maximum for Canadian AM stations.
