History The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of West Virginia, originally part of the Bell System, was founded on January 1, 1917. C&P of WV took over telephone operations in West Virginia being served by Central District and Printing, Central District and Printing Telegraph Company, Southern Bell, and C&P Telephone, The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Maryland. The Southern New England Telephone Company (commonly referred to as SNETCo by its customers), doing business as Frontier Communications of Connecticut, is a local exchange carrier owned by Frontier Communications. History It started operations on January 28, 1878 as the District Telephone Company of New Haven. It was the founder of the first telephone exchange, as well as the world's first telephone book. The company was founded in 1897 as the Short Line Telephone Company. In 1975, the company changed its name to Mountain State Telephone Company.
