''The Front Page'' is a CBS Television series, broadcast beginning September 29, 1949, and starring John Daly and Mark Roberts, with Richard Boone, Curt Conway and Janet Shaw. The live 30-minute show, based on the 1928 play ''The Front Page'' by Charles MacArthur and Ben Hecht, aired Thursdays at 8pm ET. Premise The series revolved around editor Walter Burns and his star reporter Hildy Johnson. In the series premiere an assassination attempt has been made on the city's corrupt mayor. Hildy is on his honeymoon, so Burns compels him to come back and cover the story by kidnapping Hildy's mother-in-law. Biréli Lagrène (born 4 September 1966) is a French jazz guitarist who came to prominence in the 1980s for his Django Reinhardt–influenced style. He often performs in swing, jazz fusion, and post-bop styles. Biography Lagrène was born in Soufflenheim, Alsace, France, into a Romani family and community. His father and grandfather were guitarists, and he was raised in the Gypsy guitar tradition. He started playing at age four or five and by seven was improvising jazz in a style similar to that of Django Reinhardt, whom his father admired and wanted his sons to emulate. In 1980, while in his early teens, he recorded his first album, ''Routes to Django: Live at the Krokodil'' (Jazzpoint, 1981). ''The Front Page'' is a Broadway comedy about newspaper reporters on the police beat.
