Greig Stewart "Chubby" Jackson (October 25, 1918 – October 1, 2003) was an American jazz double-bassist and band leader. Biography Born in New York City, Jackson began at the age of seventeen as a clarinetist, but quickly changed to bass in the mid-1930s. Jackson performed and/or recorded with Louis Armstrong, Raymond Scott, Jan Savitt, Henry Busse, Charlie Barnet, Oscar Pettiford, Charlie Ventura, Lionel Hampton, Bill Harris, Woody Herman, Gerry Mulligan, Lennie Tristano and others. He is perhaps best known for his spirited work both with the Herman bands, and as a leader of his own bands, big and small. Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Everest Records was a record label based in Bayside, Long Island, started by Harry D. Belock and Bert Whyte in May 1958. It was devoted mainly to classical music. History The idea for starting a label was related by electronics inventor Harry Belock (who also worked on sound films in Hollywood in the 1930s) to Roland Gelatt in the February 1959 issue of '' High Fidelity'': "The more of them I heard, the more I felt that nobody had a good stereo library. "(Won't You Come Home) Bill Bailey", originally titled "Bill Bailey, Won't You Please.... Come Home?" is a popular song published in 1902. It is commonly referred to as simply "Bill Bailey". Its words and music were written by Hughie Cannon, an American songwriter and pianist, and published by Howley, Haviland and Dresser. It is still a standard with Dixieland and traditional jazz bands. "Till There Was You" is a show tune written in 1950 by Meredith Willson, originally entitled "Till I Met You." It was originally recorded October 25, 1950, by Meredith Willson & his Orchestra and Eileen Wilson. The song was retitled and used in his musical play ''The Music Man'' (1957), and also appeared in the 1962 movie version. Marty Napoleon
Marty Napoleon (June 2, 1921 – April 27, 2015) was an American jazz pianist. He replaced Earl Hines in Louis Armstrong's All Stars band in 1952. In 1946 he worked with Gene Krupa and went on to work with his uncle Phil Napoleon, a trumpeter, in Phil's Original Memphis Five. In the 1950s he also worked with his brother Teddy Napoleon, a pianist, and from 1966 to 1971 he performed with Armstrong again. One highlight of his work with Armstrong was a swing version of "Sunrise, Sunset", from the musical ''Fiddler on the Roof''. Napoleon was born Matthew Napoli in Brooklyn to Sicilian immigrants; he later legally changed his name. Mickey Sheen (born Milton Scheinblum, December 13, 1927 – March 25, 1987) was a jazz drummer known for swing and mainstream jazz. Sheen was born in Brooklyn, New York City. He married Marilyn Feinstein and had two sons, Neil and Brian Sheen. In the 1940s and 1950s Sheen worked with the Benny Goodman and Coleman Hawkins bands and accompanied singers such as Peggy Lee, Vikki Carr, Barbra Streisand, Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. While in the service in 1946, Sheen was sent to Germany to join the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band. In the late 1940s, Sheen and Cy Coleman performed on as many as 11 television shows a week for NBC while also making recordings, commercials, sound tracks, charity performances, radio spots and museum charity events.
