Fritzi Massary
Fritzi Massary (31 March 1882 – 30 January 1969) was an Austrian-American soprano singer and actress. Early life and career Fritzi Massary was born Friederike Massaryk in Vienna in the Austro-Hungarian Empire on 31 March 1882. She was one of the leading operetta singers in Berlin and Vienna. ''The Tunnel'' (German:''Der Tunnel'') is a 1915 German silent drama film directed by William Wauer and starring Friedrich Kayssler, Fritzi Massary and Hermann Vallentin. It is the first of several film adaptations of Bernhard Kellermann's 1913 novel '' Der Tunnel'' about the construction of a vast tunnel under the Atlantic Ocean connecting Europe and America. The film was made by Paul Davidson's PAGU production company, with sets designed by art director Hermann Warm. It still survives, unlike many films from the era, and was restored in 2010. Karlovy Vary (; german: Karlsbad, formerly also spelled ''Carlsbad'' in English) is a spa town, spa city in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 46,000 inhabitants. Max Pallenberg
Max Pallenberg (born 18 December 1877 in Vienna as ''Max Pollack'' – 26 June 1934 in Karlovy Vary) was an Austrian singer, actor and comedian. Although Pallenberg's career started in 1904 it wasn't until 1909 that he joined Theater an der Wien and (as of 1911) Vienna's Deutsches Volkstheater. However, it was at Berlin's Deutsches Theater where he left a lasting mark on German theatrical practice. He worked there with Max Reinhardt. Pallenberg's stellar role was in the Erwin Piscator's dramatic adaptation of Jaroslav Hašek's novel The Good Soldier Schweik. In 1917 he married Fritzi Massary who was one of the divas of the 1920s. In 1933 they left Germany for Austria. A year later he died in an airplane crash near Karlovy Vary in today's Czech Republic. He was cremated at Feuerhalle Simmering, where his ashes are also buried. Bruno Frank (June 13, 1887 – June 20, 1945) was a German author, poet, playwright, screenwriter, and humanist. Biography Frank was born in Stuttgart. He studied law and philosophy in Munich, where he later worked as a dramatist and novelist until the Reichstag fire in 1933. Persecuted by the government because of his Jewish heritage, he left Nazi Germany with his wife, Liesl, daughter of famed Jewish operetta diva Fritzi Massary and CounKarl Coudenhove They lived for four years in Austria and England, before emigrating in 1937 to the United States, where he was reunited with his friends Heinrich Mann and Thomas Mann. Bernhard Pollack (14 August 1865 – 3 March 1928 in Berlin) was a German neuroanatomist and ophthalmologist practicing in Berlin. He held the post of Professor of Ophthalmology at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin.
