Friendship College was a college in Rock Hill, South Carolina that was established in 1891. Rock Hill, South Carolina
Rock Hill is the largest city in York County, South Carolina and the fifth-largest city in the state. It is also the fourth-largest city of the Charlotte metropolitan area, behind Charlotte, Concord, and Gastonia (all located in North Carolina, unlike Rock Hill). Harthorne Wingo
Harthorne Nathaniel Wingo (October 9, 1947 – January 23, 2021) was an American professional basketball player. Early life and career A 6'6" forward born in Tryon, North Carolina and from Friendship Junior College, Wingo (also known as "Wingo Harthorne") played four seasons (1972–1976) in the National Basketball Association as a member of the New York Knicks. He averaged 4.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in his career and won a league championship in 1973. After the 1975-76 season he moved to Italy and played with Pallacanestro Cantu (1976–1978), with whom he won the European Cup Winner's Cup twice, and Superga Mestre Mestre () is a borough of the ''comune'' (municipality) of Venice, on the mainland opposite the historical island city in the region of Veneto, Italy. The 1973 NBA World Championship Series was the championship series of the 1972–73 National Basketball Association (NBA) season, and the culmination of that season's playoffs. Florida Memorial University
Florida Memorial University is a private historically black university in Miami Gardens, Florida. It is a member of the United Negro College Fund and historically related to Baptists although it claims a focus on broader Christianity. Edward Waters University
Edward Waters University is a private Christian historically Black university in Jacksonville, Florida. It was founded in 1866 by members of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME Church) as a school to educate freedmen and their children. It was the first independent institution of higher education and the first historically black college in the State of Florida. It continues to be affiliated with the AME Church and is a member of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida. Friendship Nine
The Friendship Nine, or Rock Hill Nine, was a group of African-American men who went to jail after staging a sit-in at a segregated McCrory's lunch counter in Rock Hill, South Carolina in 1961. The group gained nationwide attention because they followed the 1960 Nashville sit-ins strategy of "Jail, No Bail", which lessened the huge financial burden civil rights groups were facing as the sit-in movement spread across the South. They became known as the Friendship Nine because eight of the nine men were students at Rock Hill's Friendship Junior College.
