Friends Meetinghouse (Casco, Maine)
Friends Meetinghouse is a historic Quaker meeting house on Quaker Ridge Road in Casco, Maine. Built in 1814, it is the oldest surviving Quaker meeting house in the state. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Description and history The Friends Meetinghouse is located in a rural area of central Casco, on the west side of Quaker Ridge Road, about south of Maine State Route 11. It is a modest single-story wood-frame structure, with a gable roof and narrow clapboard siding. A shed-roofed entrance vestibule projects from the left side of the building, its roof extending from roughly the midpoint of the main roof slope. The front facade has single sash windows at the main and attic levels. Casco is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. The population was 3,646 at the 2020 census. Casco includes the villages of Casco, South Casco and Cook Mills. The town borders the east shore of Sebago Lake, and is home to part of Sebago Lake State Park. Casco is part of the Portland– South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area. Maine State Route 11
State Route 11 (SR 11) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maine. It is a major interregional route which runs nearly the entire length of the state from south to north. The southern terminus of SR 11 is at the New Hampshire state line in Lebanon, where it connects to New Hampshire Route 11. The northern terminus is at U.S. Route 1 (US 1) and SR 161 in Fort Kent, near the Canada–US border. The highway travels through York, Cumberland, Androscoggin, Kennebec, Somerset, Waldo, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Aroostook counties. Raymond is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. The population was 4,536 at the 2020 census. It is a summer recreation area and is part of the Portland– South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area. Raymond Neck is the landing for the ferry to the town of Frye Island in Sebago Lake. The Raymond school system is currently affiliated with the Windham school system in a district known as RSU 14. Quakers are people who belong to a historically Protestant Christian set of denominations known formally as the Religious Society of Friends.
