Friedrich Salzer
Friedrich Salzer (1 June 1827, Heilbronn - 14 May 1876, Heilbronn) was a German landscape painter. He specialized in winter scenes and forest views. Biography His father, Johann Jakob Salzer (1798–1879) came from Dettingen an der Erms to open a paint store, which eventually became a paint factory. He was born to his father's first wife, Elisabeth. After becoming a widower in 1860, his father married again, to the much younger Caroline Haas, who gave birth to his half-brother, , a publisher of evangelical literature. He initially worked in his father's paint factory, while taking lessons from a local artist named Karl Baumann. In 1846, upon Baumann's recommendation, he moved to Munich to continue his artistic training and began his studies with the Tyrol (state), Tyrolean painter, Joseph Anton Rhomberg, who had been a Professor in Munich since 1827. Heilbronn
Heilbronn () is a List of cities and towns in Germany, city in northern Baden-Württemberg, Germany, surrounded by Heilbronn (district), Heilbronn District. With over 126,000 residents, it is the sixth-largest city in the state. From the late Middle Ages, it developed into an important trading centre. Dettingen an der Erms (Dettingen on the Erms River) is a town in the district of Reutlingen in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. The town about twelve kilometers north-east of Reutlingen in Baden-Wuerttemberg or about 46 kilometers from Stuttgart. The municipality belongs to the metropolitan region of Stuttgart. Geographical location The district is located in the upper Erms Valley between the towns of Bad Urach and Metzingen at the foot of the central Swabian Alb. The town is at an altitude of 372 m above sea level. Joseph Anton Rhomberg
Joseph Anton Rhomberg (24 September 1786, Dornbirn - 3 December 1853, Munich) was an Austrian-born German painter, illustrator and graphic artist. Biography Rhomberg was the youngest son of ten children. He was born to an entrepreneurial family that dealt in textiles, although they suffered financial hardships throughout much of his youth, and he received little education. His father, Johannes Rhomberg (1733–1795), worked as a local portrait painter, which inspired him to seek his career elsewhere. In 1802, he began his art studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. From 1809 to 1816, he was enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, where he studied with , , the history painter, and Moritz Kellerhoven. He had his first exhibition there in 1814. Carl Ebert (painter)
Carl Ebert (13 March 1821, Stuttgart - 1 March 1885, Munich) was a German landscape painter. Biography Following the early death of his parents, his relatives made it possible for him to study at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, with Gottlob Friedrich Steinkopf and Johann Friedrich Dieterich. In 1846, he went to Munich, where he became a private student of Eduard Schleich, and often visited the Alte Pinakothek to study the works of the Old Masters. Together with Friedrich Salzer and Richard Zimmermann, he visited the artists' colonies at Polling and Eberfing. After that, he devoted himself entirely to landscape painting; especially forest scenes. He also paid a visit to the Exposition Universelle (1855), where he first came under the influence of the Barbizon school. Richard Zimmermann
Richard Augustus Zimmermann, genre and landscape painter, was born in Zittau in 1820. Biography Zimmermann was the son of the impresario Karl Friedrich August Zimmermann, and his three brothers, Albert, Max, and Robert, have all been well-known painters. He was a pupil of the first, and in 1838 followed him to Munich, devoting himself, in opposition to his advice, to landscape painting instead of history. The change, however, proved successful, and his winter landscapes, forest and mountain views, village sketches, and sea pieces became popular. In his later period he adopted the style of Berchem. Alexander Friedrich Wilhelm Franz von Kotzebue (russian: Алекса́ндр Евста́фиевич Коцебу́, tr. ; 9 June 1815 – 24 August 1889) was a German Romantic painter of historical scenes and battle scenes. Life Alexander von Kotzebue was the son of the playwright August von Kotzebue. He was born in Königsberg. On August's death in 1819, Alexander was educated in the Cadet Corps in St Petersburg, leaving it in 1834 as a Gardeleutnant. However, four years later, in 1838, he moved to an artistic career and began his artistic training at the St Petersburg Academy under Alexander Sauerweid.
