Friedrich Eggers
Hartwig Karl Friedrich Eggers (27 November 1819, Rostock - 11 August 1872, Berlin) was a German art historian. He was a member of the literary groups Tunnel über der Spree and Rütli. Biography His father, Christian Friedrich Eggers (1788–1858), sold building materials. After completing his primary education, he followed his father into the trade. His first literary efforts date from these years. Later, from 1839 to 1841, he took private preparatory lessons for graduate school and, in 1842, was admitted to the University of Rostock, where he studied philology. After only a short time there, he moved to Leipzig to engage in historical studies with Wilhelm Wachsmuth. Another move took him to Munich to study classical archaeology. He returned to Rostock in 1844. After receiving his doctorate in 1848, he moved to Berlin. Christian Daniel Rauch
Christian Daniel Rauch (2 January 1777 – 3 December 1857) was a German sculptor. He founded the Berlin school of sculpture, and was the foremost German sculptor of the 19th century. Life Rauch was born at Arolsen in the Principality of Waldeck in the Holy Roman Empire. His father was employed at the court of Prince Frederick II of Hesse, and in 1790 the lad was apprenticed to the court sculptor of Arolsen, Friedrich Valentin. In 1795, he became assistant to Johann Christian Ruhl, the court sculptor of Kassel. After the death of his father in 1796 and his older brother in 1797, he moved to Berlin where he was appointed groom of the chamber in the king's household. He abandoned sculpture temporarily, but his new position provided a wider field for improvement, and he soon used the opportunity and practised his art in spare hours. The University and State Library Düsseldorf (german: Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Düsseldorf, abbreviated ULB Düsseldorf) is a central service institution of Heinrich Heine University. Along with Bonn and Münster, it is also one of the three State Libraries of North Rhine-Westphalia. Theodor Fontane
Theodor Fontane (; 30 December 1819 – 20 September 1898) was a German novelist and poet, regarded by many as the most important 19th-century German-language realist author. He published the first of his novels, for which he is best known today, only at age 58 after a career as a journalist. Fontane's novels are known for their complex, often sceptical view of society in the German empire; he shows different social and political parts of society meeting and sometimes clashing. Other trademarks of Fontane's work are their strongly drawn female characters (such as ''Effi Briest'' and ''Frau Jenny Treibel''), tender irony and vivid conversations between characters. Adolf von Wilbrandt (24 August 183710 June 1911) was a German novelist and dramatist. History Wilbrandt was born in Rostock. His father was a professor at the University of Rostock. __NOTOC__ Otto Friedrich Gruppe (15 April 1804 – 7 January 1876) was a German philosopher, scholar-poet and philologist who served as secretary of the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin. Poems by Gruppe were set to music by Johannes Brahms, Richard Strauss, Karl Löwe, Elise Schmezer, and Franz Schreker. He rediscovered the cycle of Latin elegies by the Augustan poet Sulpicia and demonstrated their poetic value. As a philosopher, he reacted against Hegel, his teacher in Berlin; his work was attacked by Karl Marx, and severely criticised by others. But Gruppe was rediscovered as a philosopher by Fritz Mauthner in an article on Gruppe printed in Maximilian Harden's ''Die Zukunft'' 22 (Berlin, 1913). More recently, Gruppe has been interpreted as a precursor of Wittgenstein by Hans Sluga in 1980; his ''Gegenwart und Zukunft der Philosophie in Deutschland'' (1855) was reprinted in 1996.
