Shmuel Friedland
Shmuel Friedland (born 1944 in Tashkent, Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic) is an Israeli-American mathematician. Friedland studied at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, graduating in 1967 with bachelor's degree and in 1971 with doctorate of science under the supervision of Binjamin Schwarz. As a postdoc Friedland was in 1972/73 at the Weizmann Institute, in 1973/74 at Stanford University, and in 1974/75 at the Institute for Advanced Study. Then he taught at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he became in 1982 a full professor. In 1985 he became a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Besides linear algebra (matrix theory), Friedland does research on a wide variety of mathematics, including complex dynamics and applied mathematics. Sherman Friedland
Sherman Friedland was Associate Professor of Fine Arts as well as an active clarinetist, professor of music and conductor at Concordia University in Montreal from 1960 until his retirement in 1997. He was conductor and Music Director of the Concordia University Symphony for 17 years, and was clarinetist, director and founder of the Concordia Chamber Players. Natan Friedland
Nat(h)an Friedland was a rabbi and member of the Hovevei Zion, H'bat Tsion (Coming of Zion) movement, one of the fathers of the movement for settling the Land of Israel. He grew up in Taurig, (also spelled Towrig and Tauragė) Lithuania in the early decades of the 19th century and died in Jerusalem in 1883. He became one of the most prolific Zionism, Zionist writers of the H'bat Tsion movement in the mid-1800s. He was one of several writers and thinkers of the 19th century created the intellectual basis for a new Jews, Jewish state. Martin Lawrence Friedland, (born September 21, 1932) is a Canadian lawyer, academic and author. He received a Bachelor of Commerce, BComm. (1955), Bachelor of Commerce, LL.B. (1958), and honorary LL.D. from the University of Toronto, and a PhD (1968) and Doctor of Laws, LL.D from Cambridge University. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1960. He taught at Osgoode Hall Law School until 1965 when he joined the University of Toronto as an associate professor. He was promoted to professor in 1968 and served as dean from 1972–1979.
