Fresno City College (FCC or "Fresno City") is a public community college in Fresno, California. It is part of the State Center Community College District within the California Community Colleges system. Fresno City College operates on a semester schedule and offers associate degrees and certificates. History The process of starting Fresno City College began in 1907 with the superintendent of schools C. L. McLane advocating for higher education San Joaquin Valley. Fresno City College opened its doors in 1910 as Fresno Junior College with an inaugural class of 20 students and 3 instructors. Matt Giordano
Matthew Victor Giordano (born October 16, 1982) is a former American football safety. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Giordano grew up in Clovis, California and played college football at Fresno City College and University of California, Berkeley. Giordano was part of the Colts' Super Bowl XLI championship team that defeated the Chicago Bears. He was also a member of the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders. Early years Attending Buchanan High School in Clovis, California, Giordano played a key role as team co-captain in Buchanan's inaugural Valley championship in 2000. Tom Flores
Thomas Raymond Flores (born March 21, 1937) is a former American football coach and quarterback. After his retirement as a coach, he was a radio announcer for more than twenty years. Flores won a total of four Super Bowls in his playing and coaching careers. He and Mike Ditka are the only two people in National Football League history to win a Super Bowl as a player, assistant coach, and head coach (Flores won Super Bowl IV as a player for the Kansas City Chiefs, Super Bowl XI as an assistant coach of the Raiders, and Super Bowl XV and Super Bowl XVIII as head coach of the Raiders). Flores was also the first Mexican starting quarterback and the first minority head coach in professional football history to win a Super Bowl. Zachary Lee Diles (born June 11, 1985) is a former American football linebacker. He was drafted by the Houston Texans in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He played college football at Kansas State. He was also a member of the St. Louis Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Houston Texans. Robert George Deer (born September 29, 1960) is an American former professional baseball outfielder. Early life Deer attended Canyon High School in Anaheim and Fresno City College. During his tenure with the Milwaukee Brewers, he worked for his father's construction firm. Baseball career San Francisco Giants (1984–1985) Deer was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 4th round of the 1978 amateur draft. Rafer Jamel Alston (born July 24, 1976), also known as Skip to my Lou or Skip 2 My Lou, is an American retired professional basketball player. Lloyd Cecil Allen (born May 8, 1950) is a former professional baseball pitcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the California Angels (-), Texas Rangers (-), and Chicago White Sox (-). He was the first big league player born in the 1950s to appear in a regular-season game. Early life Allen was born in Merced, California. He attended Selma High School in Selma, California and Fresno City College. Gary Soto
Gary Anthony Soto (born April 12, 1952) is an American poet, novelist, and memoirist. Life and career Soto was born to Mexican-American parents Manuel (1910–1957) and Angie Soto (1924-). In his youth, he worked in the fields of the San Joaquin Valley. Soto's father died in 1957, when he was five years old. As his family had to struggle to find work, he had little time or encouragement in his studies. Soto notes that in spite of his early academic record, while at high school he found an interest in poetry through writers such as Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, Jules Verne, Robert Frost and Thornton Wilder. Soto attended Fresno City College and California State University, Fresno, where he earned his B.A. degree in English in 1974, studying with poet Philip Levine.
