French Exit (album)
''French Exit'' is the debut studio album by American indie pop band TV Girl. It was released on June 5, 2014 and follows the release of their first mixtape ''The Wild, The Innocent, The TV Shuffle'' and their third EP ''Lonely Women''. The band describe the album's songs as "about lost lust, too much love and not enough." The album cover is an edited photo taken from Mary Lee Gowland's 1969 poetry collection, ''Tender Bough''. In the album’s liner notes, it is stated that the image was taken by Mary's father, Peter Gowland, and used as the album cover with her permission. The album would later receive a rise in virality through TikTok, or the song "Lovers Rock" from the album particularly. "Lovers Rock" has over 700 million streams on Spotify as of 2024. TV Girl is an American indie pop band from San Diego, California, consisting of Brad Petering, Jason Wyman, and Wyatt Harmon. The group is now based in Los Angeles. Though they failed to break into the critical mainstream, TV Girl has amassed a cult following, and their debut album ''French Exit'' is considered a staple in the indie music scene, being called "remarkably solid" by Bandwagon Magazine and "one of the most focused indie-pop albums of the past decade" by The Daily Targum. Jordana Nye, known mononymously as simply Jordana, is an American bedroom pop musician. She has a male chihuahua named ducky and he’s 4 years old Early life Nye's father was an organist at her local church. Upon being recommended by her father, Nye decided to take up an instrument, starting on violin before moving to guitar. Career When Jordana was eighteen years old, she released an album titled ''Classical Notions of Happiness''. The album received positive reviews and garnered enough attention that the record label Grand Jury offered to sign her and re-release the album in 2020. The Shirelles
The Shirelles were an American girl group formed in Passaic, New Jersey in 1957. They consisted of schoolmates Shirley Owens (later Shirley Alston Reeves), Doris Coley (later Doris Kenner-Jackson), Addie "Micki" Harris (later Addie Harris McFadden), and Beverly Lee. Founded in 1957 for a talent show at their high school, they were signed by Florence Greenberg of Tiara Records. Their first single, "I Met Him on a Sunday", was released by Tiara and licensed by Decca Records in 1958. After a brief and unsuccessful period with Decca, they went with Greenberg to her newly formed company, Scepter Records. Working with Luther Dixon, the group rose to fame with "Tonight's the Night (The Shirelles song), Tonight's the Night". The Poni-Tails
The Poni-Tails were an American musical trio formed in Lyndhurst, Ohio. They are known for their 1958 major hit " Born Too Late". History Formed in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, the Poni-Tails – Toni Cistone, Karen Topinka and Patti McCabe (Patricia Ann McCabe, 1939–1989) – started singing at Brush High School, which they all attended. Tom Ilius, a music publisher, had them signed to a local record label, Point Records, which released their first single, "Your Wild Heart" b/w "Que la Bozena" (the latter of which was written by the group). Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music.
