Freixo
Marcelo Ribeiro Freixo () is a Brazilian politician and teacher. He is a federal deputy for the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB), and was formerly chairman of the Defence of Human Rights and Citizenship Commission on the Rio de Janeiro Legislative Assembly. Freixo gained national attention when he presided over a parliamentary inquiry commission on police militias in Rio de Janeiro, having a character inspired on him in the Brazilian film '' Elite Squad: The Enemy Within'', directed by José Padilha. He ran for mayor of Rio de Janeiro twice, in 2012 and 2016, having as vice-mayor candidate on the ticket in 2016 the lawyer and professor at UFRJ Luciana Boiteux. He ended in second in both the run-offs, losing the first to Eduardo Paes from PMDB, and the second to the PRB candidate Marcelo Crivella. The 2016 Rio de Janeiro municipal election took place on 2 October and 30 October 2016 to elect a Mayor, a Vice Mayor and 51 City Councillors for the administration of the city. The incumbent Mayor, Eduardo Paes of the Brazilian Democratic Movement, Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB), was term-limited and couldn't run for re-election. São Gonçalo () is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. It is on northeastern Guanabara Bay in the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Area. Marcelo Bezerra Crivella (; born 9 October 1957) is a Brazilian Evangelical pastor, gospel singer and politician. He served as the Mayor of the city of Rio de Janeiro from 1 January 2017 until 31 December 2020. In the 2020 Rio de Janeiro mayoral election, 2020 election, Crivella ran for a second term but lost to Eduardo Paes in each of the city's 49 constituencies. In 2002, Crivella was elected as a federal Brazilian Senate, Senator of Brazil from the state of Rio de Janeiro (state), Rio de Janeiro on the Liberal Party (Brazil, 1985), Liberal Party ticket. The Chamber of Deputies ( pt, Câmara dos Deputados) is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current President of the Chamber is the Deputy Arthur Lira ( PP- AL), who was elected on 1 February 2021. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994. However, no delegation can be made up of less than eight or more than seventy seats. Thus the least populous state elects eight federal deputies and the most populous elects seventy.
