'' Freeridge'' is an American teen comedy-drama series created by Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez, Jeremy Haft, Jamie Dooner, and Jamie Uyeshiro that premiered on Netflix on February 2, 2023. Lauren Emily Iungerich ( ; born September 14, 1974) is a writer, director and showrunner known for ''Awkward.'' Early life Iungerich was born in Los Angeles, California to social worker mother, Viola Iungerich (née Dube), and attorney father, Russell Iungerich. She grew up in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, graduating from Palos Verdes Peninsula High School in 1992 and from Claremont McKenna College in 1996. The Palos Verdes area was the setting of ''Awkward.'' Career At the end of her junior year of college Iungerich began interning for Hollywood producers. Keyla Monterroso Mejia is an American actress and comedian known for playing Maria Sofia Estrada on Season 11 of HBO's sitcom series ''Curb Your Enthusiasm'' and Ashley Garcia in the second season of ''Abbott Elementary''. She was born in Hawthorne, California, in Los Angeles County in 1998. ''Curb'' was her first major role, but she has had minor roles in other TV shows.
