Freeheat
Freeheat are a British indie rock band formed by Jim Reid and Ben Lurie of The Jesus and Mary Chain and Romi Mori and Nick Sanderson of The Gun Club. After releasing an EP, ''Don't Worry Be Happy'' (later released with a bonus track as ''Retox''), their debut album, ''Back on the Water'' was released, after several delays, on 13 June 2006, on Planting Seeds Records, a label mostly known for indie pop recordings. Jim Reid has also continued recording and touring under his own name, both solo, and with his sister's act, Sister Vanilla. Jim Reid
James McLeish Reid (born 29 December 1961) is a Scottish singer/songwriter and the lead singer for the alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain, which he formed with his elder brother and guitarist William Reid in 1983. Career The Jesus and Mary Chain Reid is the lead singer and founding member of the alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain. They released six studio albums before they split up in 1999. They reformed in March 2007. Freeheat Reid went on to form the band Freeheat with former Mary Chain drummer Nick Sanderson and guitarist Ben Lurie. Freeheat did several tours and released an EP, ''Retox'', before the members went their separate ways in 2003. Solo Reid released his first solo single "Song for a Secret" in 2005 on the Transistor record label, and released a follow up called "Dead End Kids" in July 2006 also on Transistor. Ben Lurie
Ben Lurie (born 13 June 1968) is a British musician, best known as a member of the Scottish alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain from 1989 to 1998. Biography Ben Lurie was born in London and moved to Australia when he was four. In high school he formed the band Sons of Sorrow with bassist Warwick Yuen and drummer Paul Zezula. Their album ''Nobody Should Dream'' was released in 1988 on Rampant Releases. He returned to London at the age of 20, where he joined The Jesus and Mary Chain as a session musician for the '' Automatic'' tour. After the tour, he became a regular session member and featured on the band's last two albums ''Stoned & Dethroned'' and ''Munki''. After the band split up in 1998, Ben together with Jim Reid formed the band Freeheat. Lurie also produced records by other bands such as The Parkinsons and Tompaulin. Nick Sanderson (musician)
Nick Sanderson (22 April 1961 – 8 June 2008) was an English musician, most famous for being the front man in Earl Brutus, and a short-term member of the Scottish alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain. Musical career Sanderson started his professional career in the early 1980s by becoming the drummer in the Sheffield post-punk group Clock DVA. After that he drummed for the re-formed punk-blues group The Gun Club. He later joined World of Twist, a Manchester-based group. In the early 1990s, Sanderson became a lyricist and singer in Earl Brutus. The band eventually signed a deal with the Island Records subsidiary Fruition. The two Earl Brutus albums, ''Your Majesty. . . We Are Here'' (1996) and ''Tonight You Are the Special One'' (1998) received critical acclaim, but did not make the charts. The Jesus And Mary Chain
The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983. The band revolves around the songwriting partnership of brothers Jim and William Reid. After signing to independent label Creation Records, they released their first single " Upside Down" in 1984. Their debut album ''Psychocandy'' was released to critical acclaim in 1985 on major label WEA. The band went on to release five more studio albums before disbanding in 1999. Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. Sister Vanilla
Linda Reid (born 1971), better known by her stage name Sister Vanilla, is a Scottish singer-songwriter. She is the younger sister of The Jesus and Mary Chain core members, Jim and William Reid. Biography Linda was born in 1971 in East Kilbride, Scotland. Despite being only a schoolgirl during the early breakthrough of her brothers' band The Jesus and Mary Chain in mid-1980s, she eventually became a vocalist, contributing to the track "Mo Tucker" on the band's album ''Munki'' in 1998. She also accompanied the band while touring for the record. Following the band's demise less than a year later, Jim and William proposed recording an album with her. The sessions took place over the next several years, with the album being partly home recorded at Linda's flat and partly recorded at Reid brothers' studio, The Drugstore.
