The mass media in Malaysia includes television, radio, newspapers, and web-based media such as bloggers. Many media outlets are either owned directly by the government of Malaysia (e.g. Bernama) or owned by component parties of the Barisan Nasional coalition which formed the government until May 2018 (e.g. the Media Prima group, which is owned by the United Malays National Organisation). Opposition parties PAS and PKR, now the main parties of the ruling "Pakatan Harapan" coalition, publish their own newspapers, Harakah and Suara Keadilan, respectively, which are openly sold alongside regular publications. Nanyang Siang Pau
''Nanyang Siang Pau'' or ''Nanyang Business Daily'' () was founded by philanthropist-entrepreneur Tan Kah Kee on 6 September 1923 in Straits Settlements, currently published in Malaysia. ''Nanyang Siang Pau'' is one of the oldest Chinese-language newspapers in the country, with only ''Kwong Wah Yit Poh'' having been published longer. It has been published continuously except for four months in 1923 and 1924 and during the World War II between 1942 and 1945, before publication resumed on 8 September 1945. East Malaysia
East Malaysia (), or the Borneo States, also known as Malaysian Borneo, is the part of Malaysia on and near the island of Borneo, the world's third-largest island. Mohd Effendi Norwawi
Tan Sri Datuk Seri Mohd Effendi bin Norwawi ( Jawi: محمد أفندي بن نورووي; born 1 February 1948) is a Malaysian politician, businessman and administrator. He has previously served as a Sarawak State Assemblyman (1991–1999), the Minister of Agriculture (1999–2004) and a Senator for the Upper House of Parliament or Dewan Negara (2006–2011). Early life Effendi attended the prestigious Malay College Kuala Kangsar from 1961 to 1967. He then furthered his education in Australia under a Federal Government scholarship. He founded the private TV channel ntv7 in 1998, which he has divested years since. Effendi's reputation in media made him the obvious choice to collaborate with Bloomberg L.P. to launch Bloomberg TV in Malaysia. TVS (TV Channel)
TVS (formerly TV Sarawak) is a linear digital television channel which provides news and programming from the region of Sarawak to the state itself plus other parts of Malaysia. TVS can be watched nationwide via the platform Astro and myFreeview on channel 122. History Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) planned to launch a television station for Sarawak as part of the government digitalization plan of Malaysian television. The plan, however, did not come to fruition as the plan did not come to realization by which it was replaced by OKEY and the state television plan was later undertaken by a private company only to be launched as a streaming channel. Internet Protocol television (IPTV) is the delivery of television content over Internet Protocol (IP) networks. All-Asian Satellite Television and Radio Operator, doing business as Astro, is a Malaysian satellite television and IPTV provider. It operates in Malaysia and Brunei and operates from the All Asia Broadcast Centre (AABC) in Kuala Lumpur and MEASAT in Cyberjaya. In 2016, the company was recorded as achieving 71% household penetration in Malaysia. It was granted an exclusive license as the sole pay-television provider by the Malaysian federal government until 2017.
