Freedom In Fragments
''Freedom in Fragments'' is a studio album by English guitarist, composer and Improvisation, improvisor Fred Frith. It was composed by Frith in 1993 as "a suite of 23 pieces for saxophone quartet", and was performed by the Rova Saxophone Quartet between February 1999 and January 2000 in San Francisco. The album was released on Tzadik Records' Composer Series in 2002. Frith does not perform on this album. The ''Freedom in Fragments'' suite was also recorded in January 2008 by the ARTE Quartett, and released by Intakt Records (Switzerland) in January 2009 on a CD entitled ''The Big Picture (Fred Frith and ARTE Quartett album), The Big Picture'' by Fred Frith and ARTE Quartett. One of the tracks from the suite, "Freedom Is Your Friends II" was performed by the Fred Frith Guitar Quartet on their 1997 album ''Ayaya Moses''. Fred Frith
Jeremy Webster "Fred" Frith (born 17 February 1949) is an English multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improviser. Probably best known for his guitar work, Frith first came to attention as one of the founding members of the English avant-rock group Henry Cow. He was also a member of the groups Art Bears, Massacre, and Skeleton Crew. He has collaborated with a number of prominent musicians, including Robert Wyatt, Derek Bailey, the Residents, Lol Coxhill, John Zorn, Brian Eno, Mike Patton, Lars Hollmer, Bill Laswell, Iva Bittová, Jad Fair, Kramer, the ARTE Quartett, and Bob Ostertag. Fred Frith Guitar Quartet
The Fred Frith Guitar Quartet was an American-based contemporary classical and experimental music guitar quartet comprising Fred Frith, René Lussier, Nick Didkovsky and Mark Stewart. The group was formed in 1989 by Frith and they performed extensively across North America and Europe for the next ten years, including at the 14th Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville in Victoriaville, Quebec, Canada in May 1997. They recorded their first album, '' Ayaya Moses'' in 1996, and released a live album, ''Upbeat'' in 1999. Jeff Byrd (engineer)
Jeffrey Alan Byrd (born November 11, 1956) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher in 1977 for the Toronto Blue Jays. Career Texas Rangers Byrd was drafted out of El Capitan High School in Lakeside, California in the second round of the 1974 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers. He turned pro in 1974, playing with the Rangers Gulf Coast League team, earning a 4–1 record and an ERA of 2.87 in nine starts. In 1975, Byrd moved up to the Anderson Rangers of the Western Carolinas League, in which he had a 7–11 record in 22 starts for the club. The following season in 1976, the Rangers moved Byrd up to AA baseball, where he joined the San Antonio Brewers of the Texas League, where Byrd once again posted a 7–11 record, however his ERA went up to 5.22, as well as 106 walks in 143 innings pitched. Larry Ochs (musician)
Larry Ochs (born May 3, 1949 in New York City) is an American jazz saxophonist, co-founder of the Rova Saxophone Quartet and Metalanguage Records. Ochs studied trumpet briefly but concentrated on tenor and sopranino saxophones. He worked as a record producer and founded his own label, Metalanguage Records in 1978, in addition to operating the Twelve Stars studio in California. He co-founded the Rova Saxophone Quartet and worked in Glenn Spearman's Double Trio. A frequent recipient of commissions, he composed the music for the play ''Goya's L.A.'' by Leslie Scalapino in 1994 and for the film '' Letters Not About Love'', which was named best documentary at SXSW in 1998. (born 17 December 1953), also known as Ikue Ile, is a drummer, electronic musician, composer, and graphic designer. Mori was awarded a "Genius grant" from the MacArthur Foundation in 2022. Biography Ikue Mori was born and raised in Japan. She says she had little interest in music before hearing punk rock. In 1977, she went to New York City, initially for a visit, but she became involved in the music scene, and has remained in New York since. Her first musical experience was as the drummer for seminal no wave band DNA, which also featured East Village musician Arto Lindsay.
