Freedom (2016 Film)
''Freedom'' is a 2016 Ugandan drama film set in the pre-NRA war times and details the despicable abuse suffered by an unlucky Amelia (Nisha Kalema) at the hands of her adoptive father. The film was produced by Richard Mulindwa and screenplay by both Mulindwa and Nisha Kalema. After its release, the film dominated nominations and awards at the 2016 Uganda Film Festival Awards with nine nominations and six wins including Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actor (film) and Best Actress (film). In Theatre British producer and religious minister George Hargreaves premiered Freedom on stage in Europe in August 2017. It was staged at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland and the Bernie Grant Arts Centre in London between August 15-26th that same year. Nisha Kalema
Nisha Kalema is a Ugandan multi-award winning actress, producer and writer. She won 3 Best Actress Awards at the Uganda Film Festival Awards in 2015, 2016 and 2018 for her roles as Grace in ''The Tailor'', Amelia in ''Freedom'' and Veronica in ''Veronica's Wish'' respectively. Career Kalema's debut acting role was in a television series, ''It Can’t Be'', which aired on WBS TV in 2014. The producer of It Can't Be, Richard Mulindwa offered her another role in a movie, ''Hanged For Love'', where she played Jackie, an unlucky-in-love young woman. The Uganda Film Festival Awards also known as UFF Awards, are presented annually to recognize excellence in the film Industry in Uganda. The awards started in 2013 under a Uganda Communications Commission initiative to recognize and develop the Ugandan film industry. Raymond Rushabiro
Raymond Rushabiro is a Ugandan film actor, and stage actor. He broke through in his acting career with Uganda's most famous stage group, the Ebonies, appearing in a number of their plays. Rushabiro is also seen in Kweezi Kaganda's ''Any cow will do'' alongside former Namasagali old students that was shown at the National Theater of Uganda.
