''Freedom'' () is a 2000 drama film directed by Šarūnas Bartas. It tells the story of two men and a woman who are stranded in the Moroccan desert after a failed smuggling trip. The film was a co-production between companies in Lithuania, France and Portugal. It premiered in competition at the 57th Venice International Film Festival. Šarūnas Bartas (born 16 August 1964) is a Lithuanian film director. One of the most prominent Lithuanian film directors internationally from the late 20th century. His 2015 film ''Peace to Us in Our Dreams'' was screened in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. His film ''In the Dusk'' was part of the official selection of the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. Paulo Branco
Paulo Branco (born 3 June 1950) is a Portuguese film producer. Life and career Paulo Branco was born in Lisbon, and attended the undergraduate program in chemical engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico but he did not graduate. He started to work at the Olympic Cinema, in Paris, with Frédéric Mitterrand, in 1974, for two years, and started his career as a producer in 1979 between Paris and Lisbon. So far, he has produced over 300 films and has worked with film directors such as David Cronenberg, Jerzy Skolimowski, Wim Wenders, Chantal Akerman, Alain Tanner, Werner Schroeter, André Téchiné, Andrzej Zulawski, Christophe Honoré, Olivier Assayas, Sharunas Bartas, Cédric Kahn, Lucas Belvaux, Valéria Bruni-Tedeschi, João César Monteiro, Paul Auster, Philippe Garrel, Mathieu Amalric… among many others.
