''Free'' is the debut studio album by Canadian country music singer Brad Johner. It was released in Canada on February 11, 2003, by Royalty Records. "Hello", "Free", "Different", "The Farmer's Back" and "She Looks a Lot Like You" were released as singles. The album was nominated for album of the year by the Canadian Country Music Association in 2003 and at the 2004 Juno Awards. It won the award for Outstanding Country Album at the 2003 Western Country Music Awards, and was named album of the year by the Saskatchewan Country Music Association. ''Free'' was re-released in the United States by Infinity Records Nashville on November 16, 2004, shortly before the label folded. Although the packaging was the same, the U.S. version included six songs from the original Canadian release combined with six songs Johner wrote as a member of The Johner Brothers. Brad Johner
Brad Johner (born February 4, 1966) is a Canadian country music singer. Biography Brad Johner grew up in Saskatchewan playing music in his family band. When he was 16, Brad won a National Talent Contest during Country Music Week in Hamilton in 1982. He spent six years maintaining his solo career before teaming up with his brother Ken to form The Johner Brothers in 1988. After 14 years, six albums (including their ''Greatest Hits''), 26 singles, one Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) award and more than 40 awards from the Saskatchewan Country Music Association (SCMA), including Entertainer of the Decade, Ken decided to retire from the music business to pursue other interests in 2002. After the Johner Brothers dissolved, Brad returned to his solo career. He moved to Saskatoon with his wife Rhea and their five sons to begin work on his first solo album with producer Bart McKay. Steve Fox (musician)
Steve Fox is a Canadian singer/songwriter. He was born in Brampton, Ontario and raised in Coquitlam, British Columbia, a suburb of Vancouver. He then moved to Toronto in the early 1980s to pursue a career in music. He got his break in 1995 with a rock LP "Where The Blue Moon Rises" followed by a CD "The Days Of My Youth", but in 2001 he released his platinum album ''Small World'' which led to notable singles "Small Town", "Cheap Red Wine" and "Couple On The Cake", a duet with Beverley Mahood and a video featuring Leslie Nielsen. Canadian Country Music Association
The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) was founded in 1976 as the Academy of Country Music Entertainment to organize, promote and develop a Canadian country music industry. The groundwork for the association began on June 3rd, 1973 when a group of twelve entertainers, promoters and radio personalities met at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, Ontario and formed a Board of Directors to help promote Canadian content.
